96.7 W244DL Detroit

Post by cckadlec » Sat Dec 07, 2019 3:20 pm

I am attempting to find the correct source of programming for 96.7 in Detroit. There seems to be no reliable information on this. Everything points in different directions online.

FCCdata says //WCHB-AM (and displays a really old logo of WRVM, of all stations). Radio-Locator states the same... with a link to Detroit Praise Network, which isn't on 96.7... (assuming the K-Love switch on 102.7 is to blame for this past info).

The WTFDA database states that it's //Glory 1340, which is run on 103.5 HD-2. The HD Radio site confirms that HD-2 is Glory 1340. The Glory 1340 website has ZERO mentions of any FM frequencies. You'd think they'd be advertising that heavily if it were the case.

So what the heck programming is 96.7 running??

I've run into talk about the translator numerous times in the past and believe people were speaking of a change in programming, interference issues, and other stuff, but since none of that ever affected me, I didn't retain that newfound knowledge.

96.7 W244DL - whose signal and interference inducement are both indeed rotten - serves as an FM translator for AM 1340 WCHB.

This has always been the purpose of that translator. AM 1340 WCHB has no affiliation with the Detroit Praise Network.

You are right; the existence of the translator is no longer mentioned in on-air IDs found on AM 1340. For a year or two, the translator was very frequently mentioned in on-air IDs. I think station management eventually realized listenership was minuscule due to reception issues, and it wouldn't surprise me if listeners (or would-be listeners) to the translator were contacting the radio station to complain of reception issues.

I really do wish this station would leave the air; all it does is obstruct good reception of Mix 96.7 from Essex County, ON.

Rock 95.5 in Chicago is the worst sounding major market rock station in the history of corporate radio.

CHYR is the dominate signal out here, but it’s spotty.

I agree. I love 96.7. It's my favourite station.

This station probably has about 100 people tops that listen regularly.

Can we cancel radio stations, like people cancel careers on social media? #CancelCulture
