Maybe WJR could buy it and simulcast like WBBM and WCFS? Maybe that would solve the problem of Purple People Meters not picking up their embedded code due to noise?
This is also my dark horse/wild card pick.
Or whomever actually buys the Cumulus Detroit cluster.

Cumulus has made it known they want out of most of the old ABC Radio markets save for Dallas/Fort Worth. Even if WGPR was available for pennies on the dollar, their creditors would more than likely balk at the idea.

Don't worry, Mega. There's always 97.9 WJLB to fulfill your hip-hop cravings! :)
I also have 95.5 & 97.5 & 105.5.

Dawg.

I'll count 95.5, but those other two stations play too much bubble gum pop music to have any serious street cred. :)

P.S...don't leave out 105.1!

Sure would be great to have a real Active rock / Alternative station here in detroit....

89X is more or less pop these days, and the riff can't ever decide if it's WCSX or WRIF....
106.7 is even worse. I spend my time on FM (rarely anymore) listening usually to CIDR and WQKL. Occasionally WRIF and WMGC. Otherwise i'm on AM listening to WWJ, or bluetooth.

think something along the lines of WIIL (with more obscure rock/metal mixed in) and WLUM mixed into one....

89X sounds terrible. Dull jocks, dull music, terrible library selection.

I don't have much of a beef with WRIF, though.

I must admit - even 106.7 is sounding better over the past 30 days. They still ignore a lot of music they should be playing, though. Some stuff that I couldn't stand has been dropped or rolled back. Crappy mid/late 90s Metallica has been replaced with much better 80s Metallica.

Will the change be happening ON Jan. 1? Or will we continue to hear what we're hearing for months after that?

Good question. I do wonder if they will just keep rap going for awhile.

WLLZ, I call load and re-load, taking a dump 1 and 2. Total trash. Even in The Black Album is over played. YES! They need to play Leaper messiah, Eye of the beholder, seek and destroy for example. Wheelz does sound a tad better through.

Something is definitely up over there...

The audio processing is not nearly as loud / thumpy as usual, and RDS artist & song tags seem to be out of comission.

The audio chain as a whole has a bit of a slurry sound to it. Treble response is poor.

What kind of format would you think goes with those kinds of settings?

In fairness, whenever I'd scan by, even during a song it would say "Rick Ross live January 14" or something like that on the display.

I just tuned in to 107.5 WGPR HD1 on my Sangean HDR-14. There were no song titles on the readout, but when I cycled thru the INFO/MENU button, page 1 read “Adult Hits”. I am too lazy to go outside and check my car radio.

I have "Hot 107.5 Join the Movement" on RDS in the car.
