As it turns out - WDWO-TV is now owned & operated by the same company that owns Azteca America! HC2 Station Group, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of HC2 Holdings, Inc. - the company that owns Azteca America.

Azteca America is the third largest over-the-air Spanish language TV network in the U.S., behind Univision and Telemundo. It was modeled after TV Azteca in Mexico, and in fact, was previously owned by the same company that owns TV Azteca.

The network is currently run by the same man who previously was President of Telemundo.

I think WDWO has some cable coverage on the higher end of the digital dial. Wouldn’t be surprised if TCT is still on the channel because they are paying for the subchannel space.

Was TCT the prior owner of the station?

Yes they were, and they still program a subchannel:

My guess is TCT included mandatory carriage as a condition of sale.

Possible, but paying for a subchannel is cheaper than owning a station. Maybe it’s a mixture of both.

TCT had owned the station for probably 15 years, maybe more. They moved the station to channel 18 analog. I do remember catching it when Detroit World Outreach owned the station on channel 44. It pretty much aired TBN with a few local churches. Power was very low and signal very weak.

Well, if it netted TCT more cash, perhaps a sale-leaseback was arranged for 18.2.

Well at least Detroit has another Spanish language channel, for now.

Too bad it's not a heavy hitter like Univision (which Detroit had two different affiliates in the past) or Telemundo (which never affiliated in Detroit).

Odd they couldn't keep neither network there.
