WHFI 94.7 WNIC-FM 100.3 WOMC 104.3, at one time, in one form or another.

WHFI/WHNE/WMJC/WCSX sure went through a lot of facility changes. It's hard to make sense of the History Card. There's a proof of performance notation, and an agreement with WCEN-FM, but I don't see where it was directional. Never heard of a proof for an FM DA except antenna range tests.

I wish that format would return.

WNIC (AM 1310) continued the FM's easy listening format for about a year after the FM went AC, after which they simulcast the FM in some hours and shadowcasted* The rest.

93.9 Windsor was CKEZ for awhile, then shifted through a dizzying sequence of formats, then played an oldies format, switching to sections of instrumental music that were only about 20 seconds long. This way, they could report that most of their selections were instrumental.

WLQV 1500 also went EZL briefly after 95.5 went AC (during which time they slowly metamorphosized to CHR!

In 1991 I was passing through Oklahoma and WKY 930 was easy listening in AM stereo on my Sony SRF-A100, sounded great!

*shadowcasting was a term for the practice of placing different content of the same format on one station 50% of the time, to meet the simulcast rule.

In the case of WNIC 1310, they would have a different DJ in the AM during off-peak daytime hours and at night they ran the syndicated AC program "Night Time America".

WLDM 95.5 later became WCZY, and later WDEE/WLQV 1500 was WCZY and simulcasted Beautiful Music as I recall.

I remember back in March of 1976, WJR paid a tribute to the late Percy Faith playing his beautiful music.

WPAG-FM in Ann Arbor ran beautiful music for a time. From somewhere around ‘80 or ‘81 until ‘86 or later, they were Beautiful 107, then Easy 107, same format but with a different name.

Percy Faith was great in his field - he deserved a tribute!

Currently I am listening to a Beautiful Music station. It is WAVV/101.1 from Marco Island, Florida. The first song they played was an instrumental version of "I Love Paris." That was followed by Perry Como "And I Love You So." The third song was an instrumental. That was followed by "Our Day Will Come" by Azevedo.

Let me guess. You're listening on the Internet? Internet is no more like radio than intravenous feeding is like fine dining.

I tried out the WAVV suggestion above. Second song was from fucking Michael Buble. No thank you. I want something that accurately recreates what was on the radio between 1960 and roughly 1987. I'm a lot younger than most of you guys here but I grew up in the 80s with WSAM 1400 in Saginaw. That's what I want.

I don’t know whether these will totally fit the bill, but some good choices I see are www.97five.com and www.kwxy.com. The former is internet only, and the latter is streaming from a California station (their website is a good read for the old-style radio fans, btw). It’s not 100% like the beautiful music of back when, but it’s still great listening.

I like the older songs as a chance to reminisce about a time when there was more craft in both broadcasting and some of the music on the air.

It is a damn shame that it has been 30 years since WGER (106.3 FM) in Saginaw, MI went from Beautiful Music to soft rock adult contemporary. So why the change?? Does anybody know about this?? Because of the age difference??

I can remember when WGER was "Beautiful 102" (102.5?) in the seventies, and 106.3 was some form of T40 (leaning rock).

When T40 migrated to FM in the early eighties, WGER and WIOG did something like a facility swap. WGER was bumped to 106.3, while WIOG went to the far more powerful 102.5 (ironically keeping the WIOG call, which meant "W-106").

Of course, if WGER wasn't making it on 102.5, it sure couldn't make it work on a class A. Beautiful music on 106.3 was short-lived.
