Eric Clapton
Why does nobody play him anymore, besides "Wonderful Tonight", "Tears in Heaven", and Derek and The Dominoes "Layla"?
I wanna hear stuff like "Lay Down Sally" or "My Father's Eyes"

Re: Eric Clapton
The Breeze should be playing the hell out of him, but all we get is "Tears in Heaven" twice a week

Re: Eric Clapton
WCSX should be playing Cocaine, but I'm gonna assume they would rather play one of the 3 I mentioned.
One I really miss hearing is "After Midnight"

Re: Eric Clapton
Because corporate radio has no idea where to put blues rock if it isn't Tom Petty.
Re: Eric Clapton
Yeah, he seems to be one that is getting squeezed out unfortunately.

Re: Eric Clapton
I dont think Clapton has much appeal to younger audiences. A lot of classic rock could if it was marketed better. I hear real classic rock on WAHS, programmed by teens.
Clapton has been milking an unearned reputation for far too long. Im admitting hypocrisy since one of my favorites from him is "Forever Man", more as an exception. But since the late-70s, his output has been boring and dull. His guitar playing is underwhelming and his albums are the result of severe malaise. He's a mediocre singer and boring guitarist. Ive seen him on videos playing with guitarists that were out of his league. Guys like Robert Cray and even womanizing horndog John Mayer have been on stage with him and they run circles around him come solo time. Hendrix and Jeff Beck were more innovative in the 60s. SRV and Buddy Guy were/ are superior blues axemen. People realize what an overrated sellout he is as a musician and how boring his music is. Most of his fans are geriatrics who think he is good because he happened to record with a lot of bands, usually briefly or short-lived outfits, and assume his reputation and name recognition means something.

Re: Eric Clapton
...and why did he spell his son's name Conor and not Connor? Come on Clapton.

When I worked in Lansing 35 years ago, MMQ played "The Core" off Slowhand on a regular basis. Great song, but a long one. Wouldn't mind hearing it on Wheels occasionally.stopnswop2 wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 7:50 amWCSX should be playing Cocaine, but I'm gonna assume they would rather play one of the 3 I mentioned.

The Breeze should be playing "Promises" from Backless. It fits the format better than all of the whiny, Y2K snowflake songs that make me tune out.

I think they should play the live version of Telephone Line by ELO.

Crapton's an ugly working-class yob who likely can't spell any word with more than five letters, thus the spelling of his late son's name .(While I felt genuine sympathy for Crapton when four-year-old Conor fell out of a window to his death,as no parent should lose a child, let alone one so young and innocent, otherwise I am a Crapton detractor to the max .)

Re: Eric Clapton
Yeah, YM kinda nailed it above. A lot of his stuff just doesn't translate well to younger audiences. I mean, I dig Clapton, but somehow he fell into the "your dad's guitar hero" trap. Dude has a catalog. It just never sees the light of day at demos get younger and younger.
PS...The Core is a great jam!

Re: Eric Clapton
The Breeze was playing the studio version of the song up until January.
That was one I suggested too

I think BranDON gets 5/8 over the live version.stopnswop2 wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 8:39 pmThe Breeze was playing the studio version of the song up until January.
