Wwj-tv off air

Post by syntheticexctasy » Sat Apr 27, 2019 10:46 am

Was just watching wwj when it went off air. Maybe has something to do with all of this wind?

WMYD is also down

They share the same tower along Eight Mile Rd. It is not terribly windy in my neck of the woods at the moment. I wonder if it's just scheduled tower work?

Not sure about WWJ, but looks like WMYD is back on. Watching "Escape" on 20.3 right now.

There is some tower work going on at that site. The old channel 62 antennas is coming off the top and the new WMYD antenna is going up in that spot. They're using a helicopter to do it. I believe they were to do the top work on Sunday, so they may be preparing for it.

With the wind and rain this weekend I don't know if they'll actually get it done. Have to wait and see.

I just ask one of the WWJ engineers and he said they are doing it this weekend.

Many thanks for the info! :)

I might have to drive by there tomorrow; seeing the helicopter assist would be pretty damn cool.

Cogeco said WWJ and WTVS were offline all day yesterday for all their ontario and quebec customers, too... I thought they had a direct link to those two stations...

The stations have to power down when the tower guys are working up there. All three stations would have to power down during the work changing out the old antenna and replace the new antenna.

It's my understanding that WTVS feeds the cable systems in Canada off air, not fiber like they feed the U.S. systems. I don't know about WWJ.

Tower work was scheduled for this weekend. The helicopter was staging out of Ch 7's parking lot today.
