What, is Mike broadcasting from the grave? How is this possible?

I saw an article that said “new Drew and Mike content.”

Let’s hope it’s better than the old stuff.

Mike: (Says something) Ha, ha, ha, ha.
Drew: (Says something else) Ha, ha, ha.
(Each react to what each other says) Ha, ha, ha.

I’ve never heard a show where people laugh at themselves more than they do.
Then you have never listened to Bob&Tom..............

Looks like it will be the best of the Drew&Mike podcast on 106.7

They addressed this after Mike died. They are keeping the name. It's the name of the show, not the name of the people.

I'm interested in hearing how this works out.

And the worst part is, I have them on TWO different frequencies. 104.7 and 106.1. Yuck.

I wonder if there is more to come. Denny McLain had alluded to himself, Eli Zaret, and Bob Page being on a regular radio station. They are part of Drew's network of podcasts and last Sunday Denny had stated that they have some things in the works where they will be available on the radio as well. I wonder it may be the same type of concept.

Sounds like a network of has-beens.

Why does every douchey radio press release these days contain the word "iconic" ?

There is nothing iconic about the old or new WLLZ. The original WLLZ had a good run that lasted about a decade.

New content would be nice, but who the hell wants to listen to podcast reruns from 6, 12 or 18 months ago?

This comes across as a cheap way to take advantage of Drew Lane's brand while paying him very little.

This station is populated with WRIF cast offs. Usage of the WLLZ calls is hilarious. The only link to the real WLLZ is Podell.

P.S...I love all the spelling errors in the Fox 2 story. Did a moron write it?

Fair points, MW. It's radio's version of "we're getting the band back together". But let's face facts... We are NEVER gonna get anything as cool or as adventurous as FM radio seemed to be in 1980 (edit: or at least as WLLZ was in the early to mid 80s). That playlist above sounds really good, but we're not gonna get that in Detroit.

Rock was still pretty much top dog back then. And there certainly wasn't as many options for discovering new music back then as there is now.

You're either gonna get classic rock or watered down so-called "rock" music that stations like WRIF hand us. It's fun to have the calls and branding back, but you can't go home again. That said, I will still continue to listen, but even I've noticed it isn't the same. Enough with the Goddamn Pink Floyd!

I'm fairly certain of this, but I could swear even as late at the early 90s, WLLZ was still playing whole albums on weekend nights, maybe even Sunday mornings. I know W4 did this, but I swear I remember that. Someone chime in!

Also, Idk how many are aware of it, but if a station also broadcasts over the internet, a whole album cannot br played in full. It's something called "millenium rule" or something like that. I tried playing full albums when I still voice tracked on CSX's HD2 many years ago, but the system will either drop out or drop a song. I noticed it happen when I tried playing "Fair Warning" in full on a Saturday night. So I don't think any whole albums will be played anytime soon. If anyone in the know is familiar with that, please chime in again!

Both good posts Mega...........the sun has set on real cool rock stations we once knew.

I dont think old Wheelz did thewhole album, yes W4 did and Z Rock I think did they called it the Loud ass CD side or something close to that on Fri nights.

As for the D&M reruns.........maybe iheart are just testing the waters with this and seeing the reaction.

As a side...........I cant believe places like Specs are not creating morning shows for local radio with all the talented people in Mich. You mean you cant duplicate a JJ/Morn Crew type morn show for classic rock stations.A straight man and a voice guy.Cant be that hard.

Nope. Believe me, I walked into that place with my head held high and guns blazing. I did so many demo shows that my voice was shot by Friday. It's either retreads that have been recycled and moved around since the 70s, syndicated trash, or you work in Lima, Ohio for 20 years before you even get a shot at a part time gig around here.

It also helpe to have a TV or newspaper gig. Because you gotta have three gigs while others struggle to make it.

I just don't bother. I know they're there, so I just don't tune in. I never got the appeal of that show.
