What Progressive Era ? When black folks were being routinely lynched by terrorists such as the KKK,and suffering Southern de jure segregation and Northern de facto segregation ? By jove, what are you people being "taught" in your schools ? Do Limp-B**ls,Alex Jones, Hannity,O'Reilly,Alex Jones and other right-wing -nuts,including the religious BLIGHT,write your "history" books ? I can barely type a reply, as I am laughing so hard at you chaps' level of ignorance of your country's history ,which of course informs your dodgy present and increasingly uncertain (at least near) future .
As a center-right American, i find your stereotypes to be ignorant and a case of libel.
Anyway, Texas, with its gas industry and growing office complexes, is one of the fastest growing states due to its economy. Leans conservative, though liberals are flooding in for jobs and affordable housing. 2% unemployment in Fargo, ND-a red state. Omaha-great economy, affordable housing, located in Conservative Nebraska. Oklahoma-conservative. Very affordable, great economic growth in Tulsa and OK city. Conservative Tennessee....Nashville is booming, Knoxville is growing and very affordable. Everyone is leaving liberal areas for thede Conservative areas with opportunities. Real liberal places like Seattle,Portland, San francisco and NYC priced out the poor. Conservative cities and states offer a better combination of employment and affordable housing.
And they just happen to either have natural resources or great weather... that’s the biggest two reasons...
Without that oil and gas those states will quickly collapse. It would be the same effect Michigan would have had if the big three were being liquidated in the 1960’s. Their economies depend on the oil and gas. Finite resources are not a safe thing to hedge your bets on. All those new folks will get on government assistance (whatever is available in the land of DIY) or move back to wherever they came from and live with family.
The socialists you think you hate are not really socialists... not even close. A Democratic-Socialist and an actual Socialist are not the same.
ND and Nebraska do not have good weather. I could never live there based on the freezing temps and floods. And its not resources that keep the city of Omaha so stable economically. Or Des Moines, Iowa. its proper investment in the right industries.
Texas had good resources and warmer climates. But why have they grown so much? Because they invested in alternate industres as well. It started with oil. And thats still important. But Plano is not an oil city. I know the Berniebots and Elizabeth warren fan club will hate on it because its a wealthy city that tends to vote Republican. But its success has mostly been in the growth of tech companies and other non-oil industries taking advantage of its business-friendly policies and taxation. its a hotbed of office complexes and headquarters. If the oil industry collapsed, a lot of DFW suburbs will still be ok because the free-market, business friendly policies have allowed them to have a stable footing. Iowa has neither good weather nor a bunch of good resources. But its politically moderate. Vilsack was a fairly moderate Democrat who kept the economy in the state healthy and diverse when more liberal people like Granholm were attacking business in other states. He was an old-school, middle-America Democrat, the kind who actually was for the working man instead of these anti-business, regulation-obsessed progressives we have today. Why is warm, sunny California facing an exodus of people to red states if weather was the reason for growth? Because people cant afford the taxes or housing anymore. So really, Conservative business and tax policies allow these cities to GROW and diversify when needed. You cannot grow anything when you rail against industries that support millions of jobs. Which brings me to point 2.
HOW is a presidential candidate vowing to eliminate oil and insurance jobs NOT actual socialism? Its not allowing the market to dictate whether or not an industry succeeds, fails, or needs revamping. Its tyrannical and dictatorial. Its seizure of property and the economy. Then what? after elected, that opens the floodgates. Next it will be gun and ammo manufacturers. Saying you, yourself, will get rid of jobs or industries providing millions of people with a comfortable life sounds like pure, unvarnished socialism to me. And it allows for massive abuses of power after an election.
Yes, Ive read the article "Socialism versus democratic socialism". And I picked up that democratic Socialists basically like socialist policies but want them implemented through the ballot box. Thats fundamentally flawed. You cant believe in anything being "democratic" when you vow to eliminate whole industries yourself.Obama hated guns and the coal industry, and for all my complaints and dislike of his Presidency, he at least did not outright ban them. The New Green deal and ole Bernie explicitly state they will do away with things that currently impact our economy.
