My 96.3
Re: My 96.3
Would love to see “the planet” return..... at least on HD2 again instead of WjR simulcast.

Yes, The Planet was cool, Do you remember a DJ named Lenny the Snake Man? This was around 1996 in the summer.

Re: My 96.3
The "modern hits" era of the Planet was fucking horrible. No thanks!!! Watching paint dry was more interesting than listening to 96.3.
Never had a chance to listen to the station when it was a true alternative rock station. Sounds like the station was a lot better in the mid 90's.
WDVD is a very successful brand. They're one of the stations that helped put Magic 105.1 out of business. Unless ratings unexpectedly sink, I would not expect any name change.

Re: My 96.3
Mid-90’s saw it be more Planet after the Hip-hop era that 1990-1 heard coming from that frequency.
My tastes go across the dial so.... Planet is just one of a few things I’d like to hear again on normal radio.
Would love to have a Jazz station back instead of the same old same old again.

Re: My 96.3
Is it broke? Does it need to be fixed?
Cumulus doesn't surprise me much. They always have a solution in search of a problem. I miss 96.3's Channel X formatics. They were on fire from 1994-96.

...and then Disney/ABC had to ruin that by flipping the station to a tightly-playlisted, ultra-conservative Modern AC.

Could it be possible that your 486th (!!!) post will not be of the inane, speculative variety??

Re: My 96.3
It was an interesting listen, to say the least, during the 1994-95 time period when Rick Gillette was still PD and Mark Jackson was still doing the music (both holdovers from the 96.3 Jamz ChURban format who had been with then-WHYT since the Power 96 days). It wasn't all grunge and Green Day; they played quite a few dance records mixed in - I can recall "Another Night" by Real McCoy, "Scatman" by Scatman John and even "Juke Joint Jezebel" by KMFDM in rotation. They actually still reported to Radio & Records as a CHR for much of that time (I think they switched over to the Alternative panel by the start of '96) and the on-air sound was still very CHR-like, especially at night. They even had a "top 7 at 7:47" countdown for a while.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 12:52 pmThe "modern hits" era of the Planet was fucking horrible. No thanks!!! I enjoyed the Planet mainly for the classic alternative "flashback" programming. The rest of it was just 95.5 without Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.

CHR formatics with alternative rock music. Beau is a true pro. Dig this from 1994.
