W4 Quad 106 and WNRZ Quad 102.9
W4 Quad 106 and WNRZ Quad 102.9
Anyone remember when 102.9 and 106.7 started broadcasting Quadraphonic ,now it’s my understanding that WNRZ 102.9 was actually the first to do this ,I’m not sure how early in the 70’s this took place but I do know W4 106.7 did quad around ‘74 (I have a W4 Quad tee shirt) about the same time we were able to buy Quad LP’s ,I have about 50 LP’s but they were all Colombia Artists at that time Chicago,Santana,Sly and the Family Stone,Blood Sweat and Tears and also some Epic Record Label Artists which was a division of Columbia also had Quad equipment tuner and turntable it was great at the time it came out they called it the state of the technologIy If anybody remembers this please chime in.

I visited the W4 studios on East Jefferson in 1974 during their “Quad” days. The jock spoke into two microphones right next to each other and sounded spacey on the air.

The old W4 building at 2930 Jefferson is now The Michigan Medical Marijuana Office for Licensing, that’s where I had had to get mine a year ago for my glaucoma it’s kind of ironic the DJ’s probably smoke it in that building back in the 70’s playing Zeppelin .The building is really a house it was kind of cool to see it back when it was W4.
