We'll have to agree to disagree. Are there a good number of songs that WOMC might've played once in a while? Sure. But these by & large are not songs that were WOMC playlist staples.
The difference is that I’m not limiting my comparison to staples... did they play it or not? Even once is enough... by and large that’s a yes...

CHR could be always in a rut because Teens and 20 something’s are all streaming the music how many people under 30 have a radio in the house today? And very few may tune in the car but it’s getting rare.
Everyone under 30 has a radio at home. Their parents' radio.
They can't afford their own place earning $800 a month when renting an apartment is $1,300 a month.

My daughter uses her phone for music at home, but always has her radio on in the car, tapping the buttons like a on a video game in an effort to get around the commercials.

I'm 27.
I own like 6 boomboxes.
Heck, I have 2 record players still.

I think you are referring to people in their teens.

My generation grew up looong before smartphones and ipods and youtube.

Do you guys think WNIC will tweak their awful garbage playlist in response to The Breeze?

Good question.

If they over-tweak, they risk losing listeners to WDVD and to a lesser extent, WOMC.

I cannot see WNIC doing much, other than maybe adding a couple older, softer songs to their playlist hourly. It also would not surprise me to see them introduce some secondary positioning verbiage on-air that incorporates the terms "relaxing" or "at work."

Lady Gaga, Taio Cruz, Taylor Swift, Portugal the Man.... are not "relaxing" nor "at work" type of artists....

It's funny because before I came here and read up on what everyone was saying, my thought was, ugh, how boring. Even FORMAT CHANGES are lame now. Format changes used to be so much fun. Okay, they stunted with Christmas music for a couple days. But I can pretty much count off what I'll see in the press release for a new station now:
1. Horrible logo from a template that looks as if it was created in 3 minutes
2. They're playing 10,000 songs in a row

Also the format is absolutely not my cup of tea. Have to say, though, I'm happy how excited everyone is. Hell, nowadays it's just fun to hear something that you never hear on the radio anymore, I'll agree. I even have a curiosity to listen because of that.

Watch how 98.7 will tighten up the playlist your hearing this so called variety now but once the station gets announcers and starts to air commercials and gets a few months of ratings you’ll see how the playlist will change you might hear less 70’s and 80’s because you don’t want to mess up sister station WOMC’s ratings so we could hear more 90’s and 2K’s on this station and that could be a good thing.

WOMC largely disregards 70s music as it is. Much of the 80's music played on 98.7 is not played by 104.3 on a regular basis.

That said, I think you are right that 98.7 will become a little more adventurous in playing more in the way of modern music as time moves along. Even over the past couple days, I've heard some 90's tracks that the station wasn't playing early last week.

My addiction to the station will end very very quick if that happens.

But so far they seem to be adding to the playlist, not tightening, with a big emphasis on 60s and 70s for additions.
I love it.

MW, yes, just about all the music they are playing never has or no longer plays on WOMC, so they won't conflict much.

And no, more 2K songs is not "good".
We have multiple stations playing those to death already.

Right now the only FM station playing large amounts of 60s and 70s mainstream hits is the Breeze.
That is what's lacking. Not more Katy Perry

I've noticed WDVD is playing a larger amount of older music now. See, They know what people want!

Would it make sense for WNIC re-brand itself back to "Detroit's Nicest Rock" and bring back the Jams "It's Nice" jingles to counter act the Breeze?

Omg, I miss those JAM jingles so much!!

WNIC was my favorite station up until 2010.

I'll never understand why WNIC/iFart thinks their "Fresh" AC format is what the "listeners want to hear".

Honestly, their playlist is a random mess of today's hits mixed with some 80's that don't even sound remotely good back to back.

As much as I like 98.7, at times it feels like they should change their call letters to WBLD, for weepy ballads. WBLD is licensed to the West Bloomfield School District, so maybe...
