The Fox 94 FM
The Fox 94 FM
Any one remember the short lived Top 40 Station that was CKLW FM ,I Believe the calls were CFXX it was so short lived it was only allowed to be formatted 4 hours a day 7-9 in the morning and 5-7 in the afternoon the rest of the time the station played Big Band Music the CRTC was so tough on the station because it switched format without approval they eventually gave up and dropped the 4 hour Top 40 block.
Re: The Fox 94 FM
I've heard airchecks and they sounded hot. Great jingles too. Basically they were the classic "Big 8" format updated for 1984, complete with Rosalie Trombley as music director and a healthy dose of urban crossover. It could have given WHYT and WCZY a run for their money if it had been allowed to become a full-time format. However, a station in Quebec City had just lost its license for switching to a CHR format without CRTC approval, and CJOM was walking on thin ice with the commission over its own recent unauthorized format change (the CRTC would eventually allow 'OM to continue with Top 40 also on an experimental basis), so CKLW brass likely figured trying to contest the "Fox" ruling would be a waste of time.
Re: The Fox 94 FM
I could be wrong but did CJOM and CKLW have the same owners at the time?
Re: The Fox 94 FM
There’s an aircheck on mcrfb.com of Ted Richards in the Fall 1984 on CFXX which is fantastic.
Re: The Fox 94 FM
I was working at Magic 95 at the time. They had Fox billboards on I-75 going into downtown. Very pro. Station sounded great. That was before Cozy flipped to Z95.5. Pat Holiday was programing it. I talked to him about a job there and he said to hang in there. They were waiting for the CRTC to approve the flip. They never did and after 2 months the Fox was no more. Jingles were great. It was straight ahead pop with a few Canadian songs thrown in. Z would sound like them when they flipped. Could have been a contender...
Re: The Fox 94 FM
I remember the billboards they spent a lot of money promoting this and then the CRTC destroyed it in one day call it CKLW 2.0 the CRTC hated CKLW so much they had to get them twice them basatards.

Indeed, what the CRTC did was terrible.
But to spend so much money on a new format before it even received CRTC approval was outlandishly stupid!!

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.
