Ron Cameron
Re: Ron Cameron
Ron's show is improving.Luke is a good addition.Cowboy not calling in is a good thing.Emails are back.Even Kurt with his all A team was entertainig.
Re: Ron Cameron
Agree to disagree, Kidcat. Ron’s absolute waste - once again - of a good guest like George Blaha set the tone in my opinion for one of his worst shows. And that’s saying a lot!

Re: Ron Cameron
Ron has never evolved. He's still stuck in a time warp during his 70's and 80's heyday. While some of the absurdity makes for hilarious radio for the most part his show is boring due to the zero preparation he gives the listeners along with his stubbornness to evolve to current day sports. He's got an endless list of excuses and BS as to why he could not get a guest. In my opinion he should retire and put his energy towards something else but this is all he knows. I give him credit for what he did with his life with no HS education and all that. I just tune in for the a possible train wreck and the absurd, that's the most to look forward to in my opinion. He was best as of recent date with Alex who was allowed to chime in and Ron had an unusual respect for.
Re: Ron Cameron
It seems that whenever Ron has a quality guest he sees that as an opportunity to fish for new guests. With George Blaha, he seemed to be unusually curious if George had any contact with 1960s Piston Eddie Miles, even though Miles’s NBA career long pre-dated Blaha’s time with the team.

Re: Ron Cameron
Last nights show was a great example of just a wasted opportunity. Ron has George Blaha on, respected piston/msu broadcaster. And the talk was Elvis and Ron reflecting on his days with George.
While it was only a 30 minute interview and while I think it’s fine that Mr P asked George about Elvis as two fans had a quick chat about him the rest made no sense and of course with Ron it turned into-hey guest listen to me.
While I am no radio expert, could he have moved his ad broadcasts a bit later in the hour. It’s not like he does not have any down time to “catch up” on the ad reads

Ron actually had a few extra copies with him last night. He gave them to me and man these things are cool. How successful were they back in the day?radiofan1974 wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 7:23 pmI do agree from a look back from a Detroit sports perspectiveWarriorstrong13610 wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 7:22 pmI’m actually interested in these things. Re: Ron Cameron
As Ron is fond of telling us, he’s his own boss, he owns his show. As such, knowing he had limited time with Blaha, he could’ve easily moved his commercials to the last 20 or so minutes, after his guest had left. But that assumes Ron was conducting a “serious” interview for his audience. The commercials are the point of the show, not the guests.radiofan1974 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 3:53 pmWhile I am no radio expert, could he have moved his ad broadcasts a bit later in the hour. Re: Ron Cameron
Cowboy Brad Baylis is the worst of Ron’s regular callers. All he does is give birthdays or death days and how that date relates to him or his family. At least Kurt actually talks sports especially when it comes to baseball. Too much Kurt however is very boring.
Luke, next time your cohost is unavailable you should get Mr. Positive to fill in. Seriously.

I agree 100 % .Cowboy is the worst caller ever.He adds nothing to the show.Kurt is starting to grow on me.He at times is boring and does go on and on but he has a passion for baseball and I admire him for that.Mr Positive is a future media star.He just needs a program director to give him a chance.edj wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 9:49 pmCowboy Brad Baylis is the worst of Ron’s regular callers. Did Ron try to make you pay for those copies?Warriorstrong13 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 4:13 pmRon actually had a few extra copies with him last night. He gave them to me and man these things are cool. Although he kept it afloat for four years, I don’t remember SFJ being any kind of factor on the local journalism scene. I think it may have been a monthly publication. I read a few copies probably back in 87. Don’t recall where they would have been purchased. Don’t know of anyone who read it. I’m sure he had visions of it becoming the next The Sporting News. But alas, it was merely the print equivalent of his restaurant, radio and sports franchise empires. It was there, but basically a non entity in the grand scheme of things.

Luke, you should get a trial subscription to Newspapers.com. It includes archived copies of the Detroit Free Press that include lots of information about Ron. It was my main resource for Ron's Wikipedia page.Warriorstrong13 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 4:13 pmRon actually had a few extra copies with him last night. The most I remember about Sport Fans' Journal is Ron's promotion of it on Sports View Today: "Sports Fans Journal, still going strong!"Majik wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 11:16 pmDid Ron try to make you pay for those copies?Warriorstrong13 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 4:13 pmRon actually had a few extra copies with him last night. I'm catching up with Hours 2 and 3 on the podcasts. I was stunned to hear Ron give an intelligent answer to one of my e-mail questions (about whether he watched the Kentucky Derby). Usually he misinterprets it or doesn't show much interest in commenting.
