Dupnack not going anywhere. It was a threat so she could get more at Fox 2 and wanted more anchoring time.
Don't blame her a bit. That is the only way you know your true worth... shop your skills around and see if someone will actually pay you more. More folks would be happier (or get a rude awakening) if they did the same.

If they really didn't value her more they would have been glad to see her go. It's not a "threat" if she actually was going to be paid more somewhere else for her skills. It's just reality.

That's why the stations/media companies put those ridiculously long non-compete clauses in their talent contracts. They absolutely hate the free market when it comes to paying their employees.

To some degree it's understandable and justified. If the station is doing a lot of promotion and development on new talent, they should be able to benefit from that for some time. The new talent should take that into consideration when they're signing a contract to make sure their comp is suitable even if they had to sit out for a while during a non-compete period, or they should reimburse the station for those costs (or a pro-rated amount).

Because talent is a brand that gets an association with the station. These non-completes were the only instance of an employment contract that actually paid the talent to stay off the air. I can think of a few radio and TV personalities who were paid to do whatever they wanted except be on the air.

Pays to have lawyers negotiate for you, because the non-competes were unenforceable without payment. Unfortunately, getting sued is an immediate loss and the threat of it is pretty awful.
