Ron Cameron
Re: Ron Cameron
This is championship weekend for the Canadian Elite Basketball League, with games being broadcast on CBC TV. I wonder if our Obscure Sports Correspondent, Chuck from Belleville, will give us a report this Sunday. Or maybe one of our Windsor stringers (Cowboy and Dave).

I have a feeling when his new time slot occurs, much of the two hours will be college/NFL play by play
Re: Ron Cameron
Maybe the availability of Al Avila will inspire Ron to take another stab at sports team ownership. He could call his baseball team the R Sizzles, which, like Ron, would have no permanent home base.Momo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 7:54 amAs GM, Ron would insist on only one-year contracts. And the maximum salary, awarded only to those with an HOF-trajectory career, could not exceed Al Kaline’s $100,000. With the benefit of my time machine, here’s a look at the 2025 team picture (btw, they’re all lying about their age):

Al Avila would be the general manager. His hires could include:
- Terry Collins as manager
- Charlie Maxwell as hitting coach
- Ron Guidry as pitching coach
- Ike Blessitt as bench coach, with a variety of responsibilities, including curfew check and stopping fights between players and the manager
- Jake Wood as infield coach
- Mr. Positive as PR Director
Re: Ron Cameron
My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think Avila may have been on Ron's show once, or maybe it was just a case of him being friendly on an occasion. It was some positive personal interaction that sealed the deal. If you treat Ron with respect, you're good for life.

With Kurt as head of Analytics. And there's gotta be a role for Cowboy on the broadcast team.Bobbert wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:45 amMaybe the availability of Al Avila will inspire Ron to take another stab at sports team ownership. Re: Ron Cameron
Great suggestions for Kurt and Cowboy. Every morning, Kurt would do an epic-length mind dump about the previous day's game. And Cowboy would be the baseball version of Donald Davidson, who for years has filled gaps in the Indy 500 radio coverage with his amazing memory of past races.Momo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:50 amWith Kurt as head of Analytics. Add Ron’s protégé George Blaha as PBP in the booth, or maybe Ron will just handle that himself.Momo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:50 amWith Kurt as head of Analytics. Re: Ron Cameron
If Ron Guidry’s not available, or just not interested in associating with Ron again, might Phil Regan be tempted to leave the Guest Protection Program to be the new pitching coach?
Re: Ron Cameron
It's easy to imagine Denny trying to take advantage of some naive young ballplayer who's just received a big bonus (even if it's just the few hundred dollars that Ron could probably afford).Majik wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 11:22 amRon could have Denny McLain help the players with some investment opportunities.Bobbert wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:45 amMaybe the availability of Al Avila will inspire Ron to take another stab at sports team ownership. Re: Ron Cameron
Ron’s not one to put all of his eggs in one basket, so, whatever his new role with the Tigers, he’d still - with Warren Greg helping out with some advance work - be on the lookout for a new restaurant.

Re: Ron Cameron
Who would take over for Public Relations?
Re: Ron Cameron
Bobbert’s suggested Mr. Positive. If he’s not available, Martin, with his experience running Ron’s Twitter page, may be a possibility.
Re: Ron Cameron
The new Elvis movie is now available through streaming. I hope Mr. Positive makes it to Sunday's show but he might miss it because he's binge-watching the Elvis movie.
Re: Ron Cameron
Dick Trucewski would be first base coach and Jim Leyland third base coach, but that won’t happen for 2-3 weeks.
