I am glad I checked out early. That 8-9 hour is typically a waste of everyone's time.
You can count on Ron devoting some of his "interview" time with Roger Faulkner complaining about Bob Page, the ol' alligator arms, teeny bopper nonsense. I don't see Ron's audience being all excited for this but Roger goes back to Ron's heyday so it should be a scintillating hour :lol

I’ve heard Roger Faulkner on a few other podcasts, etc. and like so many many people involved in bringing soccer to America in the 70s, the original NASL, and The World Cup on USA soil, he has many great stories to tell, and delivers them with class and character. Then again, the hosts I’ve heard interview him have actually done some research, show prep, or have some first-hand interest and experience with soccer! The same, stale questions delivered by R-Sizzle aren’t gonna do this appearance by Mr. Faulkner justice!

Fredi the PizzaMan, who's not been heard from of late on Sports Talk, let alone delivered on Ron's repeated demands to be fed, got a shout-out on the Drew & Mike podcast yesterday:

I fact-checked Ron on his claim that he had done a lot of interviews with Detroit Express stars Trevor Francis and Keith Furphy. All I could find online were two interviews on WMZK-FM (97.9) just before he moved to WXYZ in September 1978. This was the Express's first year of play so publicity was important.

Keith Furphy, 4/18/78
Trevor Francis, 8/14/78

Complex is right, as evidenced by the reference notes taking up about the same amount of space as the regular text. :)

And there's probably much more that I didn't find online. At the risk of sounding blasphemous, it's almost like the last verse of the Book of John in the Bible:

"But there are also many other things which [Ron] did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written."

Tormented's probably a pretty accurate term too—tormented by the fact that he'll never find the perfect business situation.

We had a big moment as Steve from Farmington during the Denny interview, went there with the pension issue! Denny got hot, and Ron well not so much, as he stayed quiet on that

Later in the interview, Denny had to end his segment early as his pork chops were getting cold.
I've always wanted someone to ask Denny about his criminal past, and of course Denny responded with his usual glib spin.

It's always fun to see Denny battling with himself over the two most important things in his life—eating and talking.

I question whether Ron's limited emotional toolkit includes the capacity to experience torment.

One of our posters has occasionally challenged Denny on his criminal behavior. It's rich for the virtuous Ron to call into question the character of so many of today's athletes when he's always welcomed Denny - a "great" man - with open arms.

So I was perusing this board at the dinner table last night and the Mrs. notices I’m on the Ron Cameron board and asks “is that the porn star with the big D?” I almost did the Danny Thomas spit take. She says the darnedest things. I said you’re thinking of Ron Jeremy. I explained who he is and told her if he does it has probably never been used.

Back in the 80s, when Ron was publishing Sports Fan Journal, Denny would contribute columns from his prison cell. Ron would mention that in his advertising for the magazine.

As we enter the weekend and gear up for Rons interview with the third most powerful person in soccer. I am really wondering what questions he will be asking. I am guessing other then the biggest thrill, it will be flashback questions from the Detroit express days.

I wonder with the usual callers, what will those questions be like. The interview might be entertaining after all :)

Tonight I stopped in the Founders Tavern at the hotel where Ron is living. I had a good meal of a juicy "Beast Style" double cheeseburger and some nicely seasoned "crinkle" fries.

I told the bartender/waiter that I had heard about the place on Ron Cameron's radio show. He wasn't familiar with Ron but wondered if he was a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. I told him he was probably thinking of Denny McLain, who stopped in the restaurant once with Ron. "Oh yeah," he said. "They were saying that this guy came in with a bunch of baseballs and was signing them and giving them to everybody. I was off that day and I was bummed."

Unfortunately, I missed out on the Jumbotron experience. It had been moved to another room as they prepare to change the Founders Tavern to the Italian restaurant that Ron has mentioned.

He's very confident in lying, doubling down, and making things up, the true hallmark of a conman but being completely clueless. He only gets fueled by the low information callers that follow every word from the "Sports Sage" and ask him for predictions on topics like the NHL Finals where he hasn't watched a minute of hockey but needs to throw out this quote on every show "The NHL has no positive tests and they aren't in a bubble, how do they do it?" None of his minions have ever correct him on this lie.

This is an interesting article about Ron from 2009 on his opening of Home Run Subs if it hasn't been posted yet

https://www.pressreader.com/usa/the-det ... 5136705419
Here is an interesting review of that restaurant:

"The wait was long, the food was subpar and the fries came to us dumped into a brown paper sack. I'm all for small-business owners trying to cut it in downtown Detroit and am willing to give this place (housed in the old Tubby's across from the federal courthouse) another shot, but dear God, man. I had a veggie sub (a special as there wasn't a veggie option on the regular menu) and felt like I was going to die afterward from the grease. And the fries were literally just put into a brown paper sack, which became soaked and weak from the grease. Mad props for the wicked rad iced tea machine, though. That thing is amazing."

Hey Buzzboard. Action packed show today. Would love to hear from you! I stopped by Fredis Pizza for lunch this week actually. I forgot he used to call Ron back in his first stint here. I will let him know he’s back on the air when I go back next week.
