So why might Ron be moving stations to 680/690? Was this explained?

It's probably cheaper.

Not sure if it’s cheaper. Although they sure like to brag about their whopping 2500 watts of power!

2500 watts of power, Baby Cakes....

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Blast from the Past

Detroit Free Press, 1/28/83

Sports on the Air, by Joe Lapointe

Ron Cameron won't quit trying until he runs out of radio stations. Then he'll probably buy a CB radio and cruise the streets around Tiger Stadium, Joe Louis Arena and the Silverdome. After various front-office hassles, the bombastic Cameron has left similar shows on WXYZ (after three years) and WQBH (after a month last year). Now he's on little WCAR-1090 AM, a 250-watt (daytime) station based In Garden City and powerful enough to be heard all over the west side, downriver and sometimes east of Woodward.

Cameron's one-hour show, which began this Monday, airs from 4 to 5 p.m. With typical Cameron planning, he broadcasts from the other side of town, an east side bar called Sports Fans Pub, 12701 Gratiot, next door to a boarded-up restaurant and the "Love Botique" whose windows advertise "Peeps and Novelties" and 25-cent movies. The bar is dimly lit. Athletic posters decorate the walls, a stage stands in one corner and maybe a dozen paying customers sat around Wednesday, drinking beer and taking turns asking questions into a microphone with a long cord.

On stage with the rotund Cameron was Charlie Gehringer, the Tiger Hall of Fame second baseman. Cameron kept trying to get Gehringer to say poorer-paid baseball players tried harder "back in the old days." Gehringer said maybe, but that plenty of players hustle today, too, despite the big bucks. When asked about Ty Cobb, Gehringer said Cobb, who managed Gehringer early in the second baseman's career, was at first a kind manager who turned mean "when he lost faith in you or disliked you." He said Babe Ruth was "a guy who liked to drink beer a lot."

Gehringer also said he wasn't very talkative in his playing days. "They called me the 'Silent Knight,' " he said, "because I wasn't good copy."

The pun passed unnoticed by the host. "Speaking of 'night,' " Cameron continued, "how do you feel about night baseball?"

Thanks, Bobbert, that 1983 article is a good rejoinder to anyone who might wonder why Ron continues on as he does, at risk to some imagined legacy. As the article points out, whatever quality reputation Ron might have (very briefly) enjoyed was squandered long ago. If anything, Ron's recent work may even represent an uptick from what it was in the pre-Sports View Today early '80s. And as been previously oft-observed, Ron hasn't changed a lick. Forever harkening back to the always halycon days of yore, & unable to keep up with his guests.

Ron has more listeners now than in 1983.With the internet i would guess Ron has 25 to 50 people listening world wide.In 1983 I would guess his listening audience was around 10.

After reading Lapointe's article, I realized that Ron has been testing the limits of the chaos theory for almost four decades, since his firing from WXYZ in the early 1980s.

No show today, no explanation for Ron's absence, Martin just saying that Ron might be back tomorrow.

From Ron's Twitter feed:

Today's sports talk show has been canceled and maybe tomorrow's broadcast as well.

Stay tuned!

Martin spent like 5 minutes on air trying to explain Ron’s absence. It was 4 minutes too long. Brutal radio. He would have been better to just read out of the paper a la Ron Cameron style.

Martin needs to go.He is a terrible producer. He does not know sports. He very rarely has guests lined up for Ron.He is lazy .He does not want Ron to have more callers.More callers means more work.

Yeah, now it’s your turn in the barrel, windsorjoe. Martin can’t grasp the possibility that we were listening at different times when he addressed Ron’s cancellation. And I wasn’t complaining about a lack of an explanation, just reporting on what he said.
