Could the radio DJ be gone someday?
Re: Could the radio DJ be gone someday?
This is happening in all industries, no matter how indispensable people think they are. It will become an ever increasing problem. There are no perfect solutions.
In "The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans are the lines,
You won't find a thing to do (sic)
Some machine's doing that for you.
Closer to the Year 2025.
Siri and Alexa are both kind of dense though, once you get to know them.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Alexa and Siri weren't there, Jeff.

"Sorry. I don't know that." It gets more and more annoying.

Re: Could the radio DJ be gone someday?
It’s funny - I’ve went back to my old job and am driving a company vehicle (with just AM/FM) versus my own vehicles with SiriusXM. Wife also had to drive a loaner vehicle from the dealership for a week with the same set up. We were both saying last week how much we missed XM during that period because we were sick of the constant inane DJ yapping, along with commercials, from regular radio. We both just wanted to hear music...

Mojo is really fat...lovinlife101 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:34 pmNo radio djs?
Who’s going to ask “random callers” (who are actually members of the radio sales team) which fast food restaurant makes the best burger?
Who’s going to “flip the (fake) switch” that turns on 24/7 Christmas music in March?
What will define Jay Towers’ existence? Will Mojo have to actually get up from a chair and exercise?
Meanwhile, to restate the question "Could the radio DJ be gone someday?"
It is my expressed hope, my dream...

Fat Tom would be in trouble as the nouveau riche who populate his environs wouldn't deal with that - he'd have to move to Waterford.Jeff Dugan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 8:06 amMojo would have do actual physical labor maybe a sanitation engineer and Towers would have to get a job in a Burger King where he can eat the profits.

Re: Could the radio DJ be gone someday?
The real radio djs...and personality radio...left in the late 70s/early 80s. Nobody today like JP McCarthy, Lee Alan, Tom Clay, Marc Avery or Dick Purtan, et al.
Re: Could the radio DJ be gone someday?
Maybe it's just me... but us folks still in the industry call them "air talent," not the outdated term "DJ," which spins vinal and plays mp3's in a bar.

It's a shame really. DJing is now one of the lowest ranking jobs in our country.Jeff Dugan wrote:If that were true these people would be talented, and radio today has zero talent, so bye-bye DJ or “air talent”

DJing is Low ranking in terms of what; Finding employment, job stabilitiy, salary. (I know that Lumberjack is the most dangerous job in this country.
(Working on a fishing boat and miniing are also high up on that list.)

Re: Could the radio DJ be gone someday?
Makes no difference on the pronoun or even noun. It's the "inside" term used, such as a aux mark.Jeff Dugan wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2019 6:18 pmIf that were true these people would be talented, and radio today has zero talent, so bye-bye DJ or “air talent”
Just like "calling me the wrong gender" is known in LGBTQAI surroundings as "misgender."
I would think that on a radio and TV board, the correct and current "shop talk" would be used.
