Re: WMYD To Host Detroit’s First ATSC 3.0 Signal
So if I get a ATSC 3.0 capable tuner, I will have a station in the market to test it with.
Re: WMYD To Host Detroit’s First ATSC 3.0 Signal
You have to find one and they're not available until Fall 2020.
Re: WMYD To Host Detroit’s First ATSC 3.0 Signal
Did anyone notice the test signal by WMYD on rf31 over the weekend???
I picked it up a couple of times when they were testing for the repack move and noticed that my WMYD signal on its current rf21 is weaker then the test on rf31.........rf21 74% signal on my LG tv while I was getting the test signal rf31 84%.
They either have more juice kicking out on rf 31 or my antenna has better gain on the mid freq of rf31.Any thoughts????

If I'm not mistaken, the 31 stick is on the candelabra, with 21 moved to a side mount, to be removed after the changeover. I haven't looked at the filings to see what the new TPO or ERP for 31 is supposed to be compared to 21.windsor wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 10:07 pmI...noticed that my WMYD signal on its current rf21 is weaker then the test on rf31.........rf21 74% signal on my LG tv while I was getting the test signal rf31 84%.

WMYD's repack RF31 CP is for 935kW ERP at 324m HAAT. The 'weaker' RF21 is likely the 'interim' STA, 470kW ERP at 244.6m HAAT, actually a 'broadband' antenna that is separate from the RF 21 antenna WMYD has been using since the middle of last decade (when they were still WDWB under Granite ownership).

June 1st is when the RePack to RF31 is scheduled. I don't know if that will included going to ATSC 3.0 signal since those tuners are not even available to consumers yet.
Re: WMYD To Host Detroit’s First ATSC 3.0 Signal
For other than test purposes why broadcast it if no one has a reciever until Christmas 2020 at which time they will be available .

This may only be semi-related, but as of right now, WMYD is testing their repack signal.
Here is a screenshot of this testing:

Well, the FCC isn't handing out new frequencies for this testing, so WMYD will have to channel share with WDIV, maybe on both the 1.0 and 3.0 signals. WMYD will probably lose both its subchannels, they may be moved over to WXYZ 7.5 and 7.6, I hope so because I love Antenna TV and I'd hate to lose it

Re: WMYD To Host Detroit’s First ATSC 3.0 Signal
From what I have read, the 3.0 signal will be broadcast on the same frequency as the 1.0. The channels will be keeping the 1.0 signal with all the sub channels broadcasting for at least 5 years as 3.0 capable tuners are made available. So each channel will have the line up broadcasting in 3.0 and 1.0 once they upgrade their equipment and active.
What I don't know is if the 1.0 quality will remain as it is, or will the drop all the channels to i480 once the 3.0 signal goes live. Or if some TV will be able to use software updates to add 3.0 capabilities, or will new hardware be the only way.
