The 1963 hit by Jimmy Soul.

If You Want To Be Happy For The Rest Of Your Life

Correct lyric

But if you make an ugly woman your wife
A-you'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ug-a-ly woman cooks meals on time
And she'll always give you peace of mind

Misheard lyric

But if you make an ugly woman your wife
A-you'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ug-a-ly woman cooks meals on time
And she'll always give you a peace of a**

No one brought up Junior Walker's "Shotgun".

The right lyrics:

Shotgun
Shoot 'em 'fore he run now
Do the jerk baby
Do the jerk now

I heard it as:

Shotgun
Sugar coated rundown
Do the Jack Benny
Do the turndown

I like my version better.

Maxine Nightigale "Right Back Where We Started From" (1976) RIGHT LYRIC: "Love is good, love can be STRONG we gotta get right back where we started from". WRONG LYRIC: "Love is good, love can be FOUND".

Hard to Handle:

Correct:

I have got some good old lovin'
And I got some more in store
...
Pretty little thing, let me light your candle
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle now, yessir'am

How I heard it:

I have got some good old lovin'
And I got some Rolling Stone
...
Pretty little thing, let me light your chemicals
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle now, yessir'am

Rock n' Roll Fantasy:

Correct:
Here comes the jesters, one, two three

How I heard it:
Here comes the Jetsons, one, two three

"Amos Moses" by Jerry Reed: I thought Amos lived "forty-five minutes southeast of Tippytoe Louisiana." The correct town is "Thibodeaux" pronounced with a Cajun French accent. I never noticed that until today. After seeing all the curiously named towns in the US South, on maps and on road trips, "Tippytoe" came to sound like a real place.

I heard it as "forty-five minutes southeast of the tip of old Louisiana." Which would not make sense, as it would be in the Gulf.

Misheard, but not necessarily a "lyric" -- The Surfaris' "Wipeout" begins with a sound of a breaking surfboard and a maniac shouting, "ha ha ha ha ha, wipe out!" The sound of the breakage sounded more like rattling, so I always interpreted it as the "wipeout" guy putting a hex on the poor surfer.

Grand Funk Railroad "We're An American Band:" " . . . (something) all night, with Freddie King, I've gotta tell you, Focus (something) thing . . . " Grand Funk, Freddie King and Focus on the same tour? No, the correct lyric is "poker's his thing," Freddie King would pay his backup band and then win most of their pay back playing poker.

The movie "Parasite" won for "Best Picture" at the Academy Awards. Speaking of "Parasite", the song by KISS (from 1974 "Hotter Than Hell" & 1975 "Alive!") RIGHT LYRIC "Parasite lady parasite eyes parasite lady no need to cry". WRONG LYRIC: "Parasite BABY parasite eyes parasite BABY LOVE ME TONIGHT".

Carl Carlton's "She's a Bab Mama Jama":

Right:
She's built, she's stacked / All the curves that men like

Wrong:
She's built, she's stacked / Got all the girls at midnight

Jethro Tull "Songs From The Wood" (1977) RIGHT LYRIC: "Let me bring you songs from the wood, POPPIES". WRONG LYRIC: "Let me bring you songs from the wood, PUPPIES". By the way, I would like to see Ian Anderson play the song "The Whistler" (1977) remake with Irish folk group The Chieftains!!!!

The 5th Dimension "Blowin' Away" (1969) (written & also sung by the late Laura Nyro) RIGHT: "Aaaahhhhh, do it Mike" (which is Mike Deasy who plays the guitar on that song). WRONG: "Aaaahhhhh, DYNOMITE"!!

Also wrong:
"What a waste of time - wish you were here"
