NBC News is preparing a complete brand update for “Nightly News” as the program celebrates 75 years. Set to debut June 19, the new logo for “Nightly” is designed with a double “N” while the show’s overall palette will shift to purple and warm blues.

Huh? and, Why?
Didn't they learn their logo lesson from the Nebraska debacle? Bring back "the snake!"

Why not a triple-N? :blink

Seems odd that they'd roll out a new logo just for NBC Nightly News, but then again, the actions of many marketing types has prompted a WT... moment for me, especially lately.

With the population of true logo-geeks (seemingly 2nd only to weather-geeks) here on the BB, I'm looking forward to seeing their comments and mods on the matter...

I don't get it, either. NBC went and blew up the distinctive branding and logos of CNBC, Versus, and (especially) Golf Channel and slapped the Peacock on all of 'em, but now the news department--which is the face of the network for many, many viewers--is moving away from the corporate standard. Weird.

Then again, CBS has had The Eye since 1951, ABC has used The Dot since 1962, and NBC has used a peacock, The Snake, the Big (Nebraska ETV) N, the Big N with peacock, and at least three more peacocks since then.

Just slowly evolving towards the day where everything is funneled through Peacock. NBC and other networks both OTA and cable, are dying. Look for more deemphasizing of "NBC" and more generic branding of their programming and networks in anticipation of this.
