Today Show @ 70 years old

Post by kager » Fri Jan 14, 2022 2:05 pm

NBC (SNL) had a special edition of the Today Show this morning - 70 years ago @ exactly 7am EST this morning. 70 years is a long time...

I watched it for a while, but it started sounding and looking like any other day's constant self-promotion (and my wife left the room), so off it went.

Anyone here able to take it all in?

I'm guessing they didn't have Matt Lauer phone in a "happy 70th birthday, you jerks!", or even acknowledge he was part of the show at one time...

SNL (NBC) does seem to think very highly of Today. They may even have a streaming 'Today All Day' channel now...

I recorded it. Damn near the entire 8am hour was a retrospect of the past 70 years of the show. Pretty interesting if you ask me.

And you’re right - no tribute from Matt Lauer. He was in exactly 1 clip briefly. After being fired unceremoniously with all the substantiated sexual harassment allegations, he got exactly the amount of attention he deserved.

Today All Day does exist on several streaming services.

When I was a kid, I used to watch Today with Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs during the summer when school was out. Just to get the news and weather.
