The Office. I never understood the appeal of this show or why so many people thought it was funny.
I kinda sorta agree with you.
It became a big thing. T-shirts at the mall. Board games at the Walmart and Meijer. Many folks surely got into it.

And I know many who binge watched the show when it was on NetFlix. I don't see that at all.
I really liked that show, particularly the earlier years. Later, not so much. If you didn't start early enough, or didn't watch enough to really understand the inside jokes, then I could easily see how you could watch an episode and not see it as all that funny. I'd guess 50% of the "funny" in some of the lines was tied to the personality who said it. Change that and it's not funny, so if you don't understand the personalities there's no joke in the line.

M*A*S*H

From an objective television critic's point of view, I'd say it was a well-written, well-acted show that covered a lot of different topics in both sensitive and humorous ways.

But it never really appealed to me, maybe because of the dry, downbeat humor. I like Hogan's Heroes a lot better—it has more energy and more humor.

That seemed to have strong generational appeal. If you were in your 20s in the mid 2000s, and grinding through some office job, it probably was really funny.

Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Same here.

Dark side shows for otherwise "nice" people. Also, a way to virtue signal your hipness.

I don't see the allure of "reality" shows.
