Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Things look different when you endorse the Adulterous Criminal known as Trump.
And Bill Clinton is a bit racist.
And Bill Clinton is a bit racist.

Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
So Bill Clinton, Al Gore, New Gingrich, and quite literally every single person in the 1995 House and Senate was a racist. Got it.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
I see the problem, BMW, that was 30 years ago. Civil rights has progressed quite a bit, and you're stuck in the past. Makes sense.
Do you struggle with "People of Color" and Unisex bathrooms?

Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
I didn't call anyone a racist. I said it was a racist term in 2024. It's targeted at one particular group of people and insinuates that those of us who've been here longer are above them. You know that is true, or you're choosing to be oblivious.bmw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 7:52 pmAre you calling Bill Clinton and everyone in Congress who stood up and clapped for him a racist?
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
This whole "it is now 2024 and that was 1995" line of argument is utter BS. The definition of "illegal" hasn't changed since then. The definition of "alien" hasn't changed since then. The phrase "illegal alien" means the same exact thing today that it did in 1995. I asked for one example of someone using that phrase as a racial slur, and nobody has yet to provide one. Matt said the phrase is inherently racist. Was the phrase not racist in 1995? If not, when did it become racist? And how so? Again, an example of what has been alleged would help.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
THE LEFT is trying to change the definition of a LOT of words and phrases. "Illegal" and "alien" are just two, but "woman" is another one. "it was a racist term in 2024" only applies to THE LEFT. Society has not made that change yet, and may never.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
THE LEFT (tm) isn’t a thing… whatever you mean to describe… using THE LEFT is just another name calling thing. Nobody is trying to change the definition. They are simply advising that it is no longer kosher to use the word to describe people coming here without papers. Especially not from people who reject getting them papers so they wouldn’t be undocumented.

Imagine thinking language NEVER changes context. I'm convinced you don't think there is an issue with the n-word.bmw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 9:22 pmThis whole "it is now 2024 and that was 1995" line of argument is utter BS. So you don't acknowledge the progress that people of color have made towards the injustices since Rodney King?bmw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 9:22 pmThis whole "it is now 2024 and that was 1995" line of argument is utter BS. These things may not have changed for you, but they have for this country. I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Oh no you don't - that's not what you said. You said the phrase "illegal alien" is an "inherently racial slur." That's what I was responding to. Do I need to post the dictionary definition of "inherent"? It means "existing as a natural and permanent quality of something or someone." (Cambridge Dictionary). By your own claim, "illegal alien" has ALWAYS been a racial slur.Matt wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 6:19 amImagine thinking language NEVER changes context...bmw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 9:22 pmThis whole "it is now 2024 and that was 1995" line of argument is utter BS. So either you don't know what the word "inherent" means, or you're backpedaling after being presented with that 1995 video.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
I'm not backpedaling, but that is something you should consider once in awhile. The phrase has always been dehumanizing, whether it was accepted or not, hence the inherent nature of it. It was a racist phrase, even if it wasn't recognized. It insinuates that they are lesser than those of us whose relatives came through Ellis Island.bmw wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 9:03 amOh no you don't - that's not what you said. Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
At one time Kike,Wop and others were also normal ways to talk about people, but these days only racists use those outdated terms. Dictionary or not it is an outdated term.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
I'm still waiting for one single example where someone used the phrase "illegal alien" as a racial slur. If that's its only use today, surely one of you internet sleuths can find me one example. I have yet to see one.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
I know this is no help because I can't post spoken word here but I have a co-worker, racist as hell, who loves to say we are in the position we are in because of the fucking illegal aliens. They all need to be rounded up and jailed or sent back to spic land where they belong. I have written him up several times for his racist outbursts. He is on the verge of termination due to it. As for online, I don't live by the if it isn't online it isn't true credo.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
To be clear, I was responding specifically to RT saying this:
He alleges that the Republican party is the entity that has turned a once innocuous phrase into a racial slur, and that the party is using the phrase in bad faith to rile people up. I read that as suggesting that Republican politicians are responsible for this. Of course there are racists in the world who will use just about any phrase you can think of in a racist way. That's not what I'm talking about here. If Republican politicians are using that phrase in bad faith to rile people up, then surely there is video or audio evidence of it somewhere on the internet. Otherwise, RT's claim is unsubstantiated.the Republican Party has turned the term into a slur the same as calling Democrats communists and socialists when they are neither. All of these terms are used by that political party in bad faith to rile up a bunch of people who don’t know any better. So for that reason we should avoid saying it
