Is it possible we have entered a new Civil War

Post by zzand » Fri Jan 26, 2024 6:06 am

With everything going on in Texas and other states coming to their side to offer support and help are we actually headed toward a Civil War?

I think we're in a "cold" civil war right now. I'm curious as to what's gonna push it to "hot".

I think this Texas situation could be a possible flash point.

Trump losing in November.

Ok, that rings more true.

I don't think so. I believe it will just start another impeachment cycle.

Either way civil war is inevitable. This country is so divided racially and politically.

First, the Federal Reserve would cut off Texas from US currency. Federal Payments to the state would halt. Then, Federal employees will be transferred out of TX to the US (about 2% of the population). Of course, all federal subsides including oil bribes, will stop. The US get very little oil from Texas, it's mostly exported.

Most Texans would not welcome going headlong into a depression.

You give interesting thoughts but if most of their oil is exported then they have good income entering the state and Texans aren't quite as soft as you portray them. Having family that has lived there for generations I can atest to the fact they aren't big fans of the federal government and would be happy to be independent.

Yes but the shock to their economy would put them in a depression. We would need trade agreements with them. They would have to agree to a bunch of international conventions. We would need to do a zillion things to even interact with them. They would need to start a military from scratch. They would also need this on the international level to trade that oil. Breaking up is hard to do.

I'd say we've been in a cold civil war since the second Clinton term, with a small pause following 9/11.

I agree, but the whole Trump thing in 2020 along with Covid really caused a larger divide. Now with the 2024 election, all I have to say is fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride.

I don't recall things getting too terrible until around 2002 or so. The late 90s was based on "he lied about a blow job! Get 'em!". The scorched earth policy of the 1994 "contract with America" certainly got the ball rolling.
