On the eve of a legal battle in New York, Wayne LaPierre told board members on Friday that he would step down as the longtime chief of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. LaPierre, 74, has led the organization for more than three decades. But his resignation came as he faced his gravest challenge yet, a corruption trial in Manhattan amid a legal showdown with New York’s attorney general, Letitia James. Jury selection has already begun, and Mr. LaPierre has been in the courtroom for some of it. Opening arguments were scheduled for early next week.
The announcement, which is effective on Jan. 31, is not part of a deal with the attorney general’s office. Andrew Arulanandam, Mr. LaPierre’s longtime spokesman, will become the interim chief executive. The development was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
Here's a force behind why we don't have meaningful gun control in the US. I hope he is convicted and heads to prison for the rest of his life. To all you gun nuts; here's your hero in all his corrupt grandeur.

Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
Is this James the same political hack that's going after Trump because she doesn't think his properties are worth what the banks said they were when they loaned him money?
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.
Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
By inflating his numbers. You didn’t think all the numbers were squeaky clean legitimate in the financial world did you?
Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
You need to quit Trump.
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

Ah, but the NRA too were forced to leave New York due to unethical business practices.

Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
Most likely a LOT more legitimate that the numbers the prosecutor and judge in the case are citing, at least on the Mar-a-lago property. The lib Judge used the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's valuation on that property which was $18 million to $27.6 million. Which shows the judge is either completely ignorant or just a plain hack. Christ, Rush Limbaugh's house, a house, NOT a resort, located just down the street, sold a while ago for $155 million.
This prosecutor has a political agenda and Mr. Lapierre is also being targeted.

Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
Actually because it’s a dues paying private club the valuation is based on its income from those dues. So that’s the valuation you would use. That income was in the $25 million range. Trump signed forms agreeing to this value. It makes sense… his taxes are a hell of a lot lower this way.Bryce wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 9:05 amMost likely a LOT more legitimate that the numbers the prosecutor and judge in the case are citing, at least on the Mar-a-lago property. So basically them there internets have pissed down your back, told you it’s raining and you forgot your umbrella. The echo chamber you inhabit is filled with thousands of these kinds of things. It took a 2 second google search to find an explanation. There is no witch hunt on the value of his club. He wants it at $25 million.Mar-a-Lago is not valued by the county as if it were a luxury home because it is a private club. Trump in 1995 signed a deed of conservation and preservation easement, which means he ceded the right to use the property for anything other than a social club.
That means the property appraiser uses an income-based valuation for the property, Becky Robinson, a spokesperson for the property appraiser, told PolitiFact.
"Mar-a-Lago is one of nine deed-restricted clubs in Palm Beach County, and all are valued in the same manner," Robinson said. "The income approach to valuation capitalizes the net operating income that private clubs could generate. This means that the value of the property is determined based on the amount of income that it generates as a club."
That’s different from determining the value of a house, when appraisers consider recent sales of nearby homes, and determine a comparable value.
The county appraiser is a government office that assesses properties for taxation purposes only.
Property owners can file a petition to challenge the valuation; usually, they seek a lower value to decrease their taxes. In September 2020, a Mar-a-Lago representative filed such a petition, according to the records sent to us by an official for the Palm Beach County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. But in November 2020, the representative withdrew the petition, marking a box labeled "petitioner agrees with the determination of the property appraiser or tax collector."
Mar-a-Lago is currently valued at about $33.4 million by the Palm Beach County property appraiser, based on a 2023 appraisal. A new valuation will be available Jan. 1.
Davis also said the New York attorney general said that Mar-a-Lago was valued at $18 million. In James’ statement to the media announcing the lawsuit, she said that Mar-a-Lago was valued based on the "false premise" that it could be developed and sold for residential use, despite the deed restrictions.
"In reality, the club generated annual revenues of less than $25 million and should have been valued at closer to $75 million," her statement said. The Article III Project noted that James said in a post on X that the value was "$25 million."

what is your definition of a gun nut? Curious if I am on the list.
I no longer directly engage trolls
Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
Owning more than a reasonable number of guns and / or rejecting ANY reasonable reform to reducing the person on person gun attacks. Also, showing up to a pro gun rally down the street from a memorial for kids killed in a gun attack would also get you on the list.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 10:42 amwhat is your definition of a gun nut? If they put Mar-A-Lago on the market tomorrow for 18 million, even I could put together the money to buy it and would do so in a heartbeat.
Using the formula you cite, it would mean that if I had a rental property that generated 24,000 a year in rental income, that property would only be worth $72,000. I got news for you it's worth a lot more.

Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
The point was there is no conspiracy or anything in using that valuation and even Trump agreed with it. So to attack the judge and prosecutor for using the formula everybody agreed with is asanine. You are allowing a man who WANTED that valuation badly to conflate value and valuation in front of you and eating it up. You can’t possibly be that dumb…Bryce wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:22 pmWould you sell your house for what it's appraised at?Rate This wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 10:04 amActually because it’s a dues paying private club the valuation is based on its income from those dues. Agreeing that Trump mislead people would be a grave move for MAGA follower.
The judge is thinking north of 350 million as the fine for the the NY trial.

Me dumb? At least I can differentiate between a valuation for a tax assessment and the true value of a property.
Ever notice, none of the lenders had complained?
Oh, and Matt, present me with a better, proven, alternative that is almost certain to beat the person hell bent on destroying this country.
Again, this prosecutor has an admitted political agenda. The phrase, "Give me the man and I'll show you the crime," comes to mind.

Re: Wayne LaPierre leaves NRA and enters prosecution
He overinflated his asset values to get loans. That is provable. Also again because of the clubs tax status as a dues paying outfit it’s value and its valuation are counted differently. He’s not gonna get the same price as if it were a home. HE SET IT UP THAT WAY. He’s not being persecuted here.. he’s an inveterate liar who is going to have to pay the piper.Bryce wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 9:13 amMe dumb? Alternative: Joe Biden. You seem to be confused on who is hell bent on destroying what. Remember that “fundamental transformation” line from 2008? That’s Trump in a nutshell. His plans are things the country has never tried before… by definition that makes him and his followers radicals. The establishment (that would be anybody in the so called “deep state”)… well… the establishment can’t be “radical” too… by definition they are the way we’ve been doing it and so these things are one or the other. It would be like saying it rains down and up at the same time. Can’t be done.
As for being almost certain… there’s no way anyone can say that with a straight face at this stage. It’s way too early for such grandstanding. Especially from the supporters of a guy who hasn’t garnered an outright win yet and got thumped last time.
If Trump finally loses a third time are you gonna get off at the next place the train stops or just keep on writing him in when he’s six feet under?
