Karl Rove's column today in the WSJ notes that FIRED President Trump is at 42% in Iowa and 34% in NH, well below his national average.
And the rest of the universe notes that those two are small and unrepresentative of much of anything and probably shouldn’t go first.

Momentum (and not being in prison) matters.
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

DeSantis is the guy that has a great resume that you bring in for an interview thinking he's going to be the top candidate. He then reminds you why a hiring process has multiple stages and why you don't hire based solely on experience.

DeSantis is a guy with a fairly weak resume you don’t really bother interviewing once you make a couple phone calls to actually check references… a lot of people don’t bother with those anymore but they help considerably.

This is incorrect on all levels. DeSantis has been a very competent governor, particularly in dealing with natural disaster relief. Also, you never do reference checks BEFORE a first interview.

His natural disaster relief deserves credit. Much of the rest of his “accomplishments” relate to scoring cheap points to elevate his flailing presidential ambitions. That’s a veneer of competence that in the end usually ends up being struck down, retracted or ignored. That’s not really a strong resume.

In this case asking about things you read in his resume from the people involved to get a sense of the guy would be absolutely appropriate. They would drop him a couple pegs.

However… he would bullshit his way into your heart. That’s precisely how we end up with so many supposed managers who have no people skills or are entirely inept and become terrorists in the workplace to cover for it. They sweet-talk their way past the interview and make themselves sound important and then get something they don’t deserve over someone who might do a better job in all reality. Then you have a massive HR mess.

In terms of fundraising success post-debate, DeSantis is the winner as he raised the most money on Thursday.

Here are some viewpoints from various pundits regarding winners and losers - opinion is quite varied:

Polling data from FiveThirtyEight shows some surprising results - with Scott scoring quite well and Pence registering an underwhelming result:

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Amazing how opinions differ. I truly have no dog in this hunt, but don't know how anyone could think Rammiswammy is anything but a smarmy, arrogant, phony. I also disagree with Mike Pence on 99.9% of issues, but have respect for the man simply because I think he's genuine to his beliefs. Scott seemed like a bore with pre-programmed answers. Haley impressed me, and I liked the guy from North Dakota...though I still don't know his name. I dont understand the campaign DeSantis is running.

Okay, gun to head, you have to pull the lever for a Republican candidate. Who you got? Knowing they're all gonna pardon Trump either way.

Add another one for Haley. She’s personably the only one who would keep me from “wasting my vote” on No Labels.
