Trump Indicted In Georgia

Post by Rate This » Mon Aug 14, 2023 11:01 pm

ATLANTA (AP) — Donald Trump and several allies were indicted in Georgia on Monday, accused of scheming to illegally overturn his 2020 election loss in the state. It’s the fourth criminal case to be brought against the former president and the second to allege that he tried to subvert the results of the vote.

The Fulton County grand jury indictment of Trump follows a two-year investigation ignited by a January 2021 phone call in which the then-president suggested that Georgia’s Republican secretary of state could help him “find 11,780 votes” needed to reverse his narrow loss to Democrat Joe Biden.
This broke at 1057pm ET… so hot off the presses literally. Details on Specific charges to follow…

Those charged include Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows and Geoffrey Clark.

While you may think it's a circus... Willis and co. seem to have done their homework here. There was pretty clearly a scheme to try to overturn the results in Georgia.

When I asked why the 6 unnamed conspirators in the last indictment weren't charged, Lester the Nightfly basically implied it was because the court room would become a circus. And that was 6. We're talking 19.

Joe Biden will no longer be in the news, at all, for the remainder of his term (which is I'm sure what Democrats want).

Does America really want to re-litigate 2020 for the next year and a half? Because that has just been established as what the news cycle will be for that time frame. How this will play out both legally and politically is anybody's guess, but my initial gut reaction is that this may backfire on Democrats. We'll see.

Cold take, but Giuliani should feel pretty dumb for what he has done to his legacy over the past decade and a half.

You'll ridicule every last court that sees the criminal you can't. How many indictments before you start to question your sense of judgement?

The other "big fish" to be charged here are John Eastman, Jenna Ellis and Kenneth Chesebro. The other dozen are unknown to me.

Here is a link to the indictment text:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national ... p-georgia/

Trump is being charged with 13 counts in order as follows:
*Violation of the Georgia RICO Act
*Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer (1st Count)
*Conspiracy to Commit Impersonating a Public Officer
*Conspiracy to Commit Forgery in the First Degree (1st Count)
*Conspiracy to Commit False Statements and Writings (1st Count)
*Conspiracy to Commit Filing False Documents
*Conspiracy to Commit Forgery in the First Degree (2nd Count)
*Conspiracy to Commit False Statements and Writings (2nd Count)
*Filing False Documents
*Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer (2nd Count)
*False Statements and Writings (1st Count)
*Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer (3rd Count)
*False Statements and Writings (2nd Count)

The RICO case alone lists 161 acts that were undertaken as part of the conspiracy... That section alone runs for 59 of the 98 total pages.

And there are unindicted co-conspirators numbered from 1 to.... 30 (!).

After 9/11 Giulliani was an American hero. His association with Trump turned him into a laughing stock.
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

Seems the more they prosecute Trump, the more people think he's being unfairly persecuted. And the more his poll numbers go up.

It would not surprise me if Trump eventually get convicted of something. But by the time that all plays out, he will be the Republican nominee, he'll probably be the president, and whoever his VP is will pardon him.

Ronald Reagan was often called the "Teflon President," because criticism and blame never seemed to stick to him. His personal charm and style were said by many to form a protective covering that resisted public displeasure and explained his high popularity ratings. Sound familiar?
