Warrant issued for arrest of Putin

Post by bmw » Fri Mar 17, 2023 3:13 pm

Issued by the International Criminal Court. So basically, meaningless.

https://www.foxnews.com/world/icc-issue ... es-he-face
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, but he may never stand trial for his alleged crimes, according to materials published by the court.

"This is probably the highest profile action that the International Criminal Court has ever taken," Steven Groves, Fellow at the Heritage Foundation with a focus on international law, told Fox News Digital.

"[The court] has indicted heads of state before, such as with al-Bashir, but that's Sudan. This is Russia," Groves stressed. "The reality of the situation is Putin will never turn himself in and Russia won’t turn Putin in."

Probably still has more meaning than a Livingston county warrant. And Putin will probably be arrested and punished before my wife's ex-husband.

Might make him a bit skiddish about attending G30 summits.

You may be right. When W and Cheney were being investigated for some very unsavory events in Iraq and Afghanistan it seemed to curtail overseas travel for them.

If he dared show up would somebody dare arrest him?

There are plenty of oligarchs who want him gone. I heard a BBC story suggesting he has stopped making public appearances. He didn't even attend Easter services publicly this year, which he has always done.

This curtails his efforts to recruit alliances. China will need to think carefully about their diplomacy.

Putin will not get arrested. If they win the war, they will be in a position to ignore the warrant. If they lose the war, he will probably be dead.
