There's no doubt we are perfectly capable of bringing it down safely and in-tact. Why Biden is not only choosing not to do so, but also choosing to outright lie about the reasons for not bringing it down needs to be investigated.
But let's not question Trump's handling of sensitive government secrets.

Just asking. What would the Chinese do if they spotted a U.S. spy balloon over their country?

Bump your turntable.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

The million dollar question to me is how that thing wasn't spotted prior to entering US airspace? I mean we spend a gazillion dollars a year on NORAD. How something like that could enter US airspace without being detected is somewhat chilling.

On the other hand maybe it was detected and they were ordered not to do anything about it. That's even more concerning.
The tragectory was discussed. The military has been following it and sends their apologies for not contacting Bryce sooner. However they chose to handle things is going to be wrong to Bryce and BMW, because it's amazing how much they have learned from their armchairs scrolling the internet.
I forgot. Just how many years did you serve in the Armed Forces?

You really should ask your doctor if he can prescribe you some pills to help take care of your whataboutism disease.

And on to a serious question - are you buying the excuse that shooting it down would cause a debris risk to people on the ground? Are you telling me that our military is incapable of bringing it down in a risk-free manner? Because if that's the case, then I have some serious questions about our military capabilities.

Does anybody know if the same guy piloting this balloon is the same guy that was driving Dianne Feinstein in her limo?

The Chinese spy balloon that’s been spotted over U.S. airspace in recent days has been shot down over the Carolina coastline, officials said.

An operation was underway to recover debris from the balloon in the Atlantic Ocean. A livestream of the balloon showed it deflated and falling toward the water below.

Earlier on Saturday, when President Biden was asked about the possibility of shooting it down, he told reporters: "We're gonna take care of it."

Soon after, the Federal Aviation Administration shut down three airports in both North and South Carolina “to support the Department of Defense in a national security effort.”

The balloon, which was first spotted by civilians in Montana on Wednesday, was described by the Pentagon as a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon. China’s Foreign Ministry, however, claimed it was being used for weather research and had blown off course.

Said to be around the size of two to three buses, the balloon — floating at an altitude of around 60,000 feet — flew over Canada and Alaska’s Aleutian Islands before being spotted in the continental United States. It then made its way eastward, being spotted across the country before it was shot down on Saturday afternoon.

Exactly the right call. Bring it down in as controlled manner as is possible. You don't "shoot now and ask questions later" when you've got three busloads of who knows what floating around from above. The payload could have contained some very bad stuff.

This is how the adults do it.

Yeah...after China already got everything they wanted from it via radio or satellite transmission.

We should have taken it down over a rural part of Montana or even sooner depending on what we knew and when.

And I'm sure everything the US government does find from the balloon will be instantly classified....and stored in Joe's garage, alongside the balloon's payload and his sportscar, for safe-keeping.

I feel like I have to separate my kids and my dogs less than you guys.

Look, the fucker is down. It was either gonna be too early or too late. No decision was going to be the correct one.

My question is, how did the world's most technologically advanced country not know that something like this was possible and not have a proper plan in place in the event that it did?

One other thing that came out of not going all Yosemite Sam with guns blazing early on is what is being pointed out if you have any hopes of recovering hardware once the balloon is gone you're going to have much better luck having it hit water than land. Better to have it break in a thousand pieces on the water than a million pieces if it hit tera firma.

[EDIT: There are news reports that debris is already arriving at the FBI labs in Quantico]

Biden said he ordered it to be shot down on Wednesday, but the military overruled him. How the fuck did that happen?
