Has there been a judicial ruling that yielded so much rejoicing nationwide as Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle’s on Monday vacating the federal mask mandate in public transportation? It wasn’t the end of Prohibition, but we’ll bet there was some drinking in more than a few places.

Spontaneous applause broke out in midair on some flights on the news. Several airlines immediately announced that masks are now optional, while Uber and Lyft dropped their mandates. New Jersey’s Phil Murphy, one of the most mandate-happy Governors, lifted the mask order on New Jersey Transit. New York is still insisting on masks on mass transit—of course—but many straphangers already wore their masks below their noses.

The reaction reflects the joy of being liberated from two years of Covid restrictions, often imposed for what seemed to be political reasons. Regarding cloth masks in particular, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention certainly wasn’t following the science. Most Americans long ago lost patience with the arbitrary nature of Covid mandates.

Judge Mizelle is taking abuse for being a 35-year-old Trump appointee, but her legal opinion is detailed and careful. She ruled on legal, not policy, grounds. And we’d bet she’s more popular today than any politician.

The "national emergency" should have ended the day the vaccine became readily available.

Side-note: I would wager that those in this thread attacking the judge didn't actually read through a single word of the ruling. This is especially clear in TCT's case who couldn't even properly identify the gender of the judge.

TCT's error also goes to show the bias. Because someone on the left would NEVER, EVER make this mistake when it comes to referring to a transgender person by his/her/its preferred pronoun. That would be highly offensive. But improperly calling a real "she" a "he," no biggie.
