The Republican National Committee is preparing to change its rules to require presidential candidates seeking the party’s nomination to sign a pledge to not participate in any debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
Republican committee officials alerted the debate commission to their plans in a letter sent on Thursday, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times. If the change goes forward, it would be one of the most substantial shifts in how presidential and vice-presidential debates have been conducted since the commission began organizing debates more than 30 years ago.
Acceptable registrations in the queue through May 6 at 7:00p ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

RNC tries to avoid embarrassment
RNC tries to avoid embarrassment
Given the kinds of people that are going to show up as candidates for the presidential race next time, I sort of agree with the RNC. A debate would be nothing more than a shit show. That's what you get when you don't have anything of quality to offer the American people for the next president.

Re: RNC tries to avoid embarrassment
After the questions were leaked to Hillary, why should they?
Democrats are the ones without any quality this round.

Re: RNC tries to avoid embarrassment
Hillary? What does she have to do with primary debates inside the RNC?

If they sign the pledge, it would cancel the post-primary debates too.

Re: RNC tries to avoid embarrassment
Anything to avoid being held accountable by somebody else in a public forum seems like the RNC's motivation.
They especially don't want to get their ass handed to them by another nut job like Trump.

There have been debates since the 1960's.

The RNC said it. Cowards.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Re: RNC tries to avoid embarrassment
Okay all you political noobs, let me parse this out for you.
1) This has Trump stamped all over it. An attempt by Romney family member who will not be named Romney to curry favor with TFG.
2) This has NOTHING to do with primary debates (the one that Hillary got advances on the questions, stupid move by a blatant partisan). This has no effect on the primary debates since the RNC (or some similar committee connected to the party) was the sponsor of those.
3)
This is another attempt to manipulate the system and not "play by the established rules" which frankly a lot of MAGA folks want.

One of the co-heads is a former RNC chairman and big wig in the R party. TFG got pissy when the CPD wouldn't bend to his demands and almost backed out of the debates in 2020.Website for the CPD wrote: The Commission on Presidential Debates (the “CPD”) is a private, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization. As a 501(c)(3) organization, it is eligible under federal law to serve as a debate sponsor. The CPD’s primary mission is to ensure, for the benefit of the American electorate, that general election debates are held every four years between and among the leading candidates for the offices of President and Vice President of the United States. The CPD is an independent organization. It is not controlled by any political party or outside organization, and it does not endorse, support, or oppose political candidates or parties. It receives no funding from the government or any political party, political action committee or candidate. The CPD has sponsored general election presidential debates in every election since 1988.
