Evangelist and Racist Republican become interchangeable

Post by TC Talks » Tue Oct 26, 2021 9:10 pm

A new study from Pew is suggesting that Trump's racist rhetoric has helped the exclusively white Evangelical Church grow.

It seems my taunting has been more steeped in truth than I realized.

The conventional wisdom about religion in the United States is that the number of people who have no religious affiliation is rising rapidly. In the 1970s, secular Americans (often called the Nones) made up just 5 percent of the population; now, that number has climbed to at least 30 percent. The data suggest that religious groups must be suffering tremendous losses as the Nones continue to increase in size and influence each year.

That’s why a recent report from the Pew Research Center came as a H*** surprise. Its most shocking revelation was that, between 2016 and 2020, there was no significant decline in the share of white Americans who identify as evangelical Christians. Instead, the report found the opposite: During Donald Trump’s presidency, the number of white Americans who started identifying as evangelical actually grew.

Conservative Christians celebrated the news. For years, stories have appeared in media outlets about how many of the more theologically moderate denominations like Episcopalians and the United Church of Christ have suffered staggering losses in membership. The fact that denominations that allowed women pastors were declining while evangelical churches that took more conservative positions on views of gender and sexuality were holding their own was evidence for evangelicals that conservative religion has staying power. Because these moderate traditions were so much like the culture around them, the story went, it was easy for their members to fall away from church attendance. Evangelicals prided themselves on their distinctiveness from mainstream society, which insulated them from forces like secularization.

But they might hold off on patting themselves on the back too much. The number of self-identified evangelicals has likely not increased over the last few years because evangelicals have been effective at spreading the Gospel and bringing new converts to the church.

What is drawing more people to embrace the evangelical label on surveys is more likely that evangelicalism has been bound to the Republican Party. Instead of theological affinity for Jesus Christ, millions of Americans are being drawn to the evangelical label because of its association with the G.O.P.

In the fall of 2016 we were in Florida. Our neighbour there, an evangelical Christian was wearing his Trump Hat and Trump shirt. This was just days after the Access Hollywood tapes became public.

I asked our neighbour how he could square his faith with his support of someone with Trump's character.

He answered, "America has lost its way. Only Donald Trump can lead us back to Jesus."

He led him back to jesus anyway. He died last spring and now he's with Jesus

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Said a moderately educated white man from rural America. Quite surprising.
By your own comment you’ve admitted you’re elitist, racist, sexist, sarcastic, and ignorant. Why stop there?
Based on your past posts and the title of this thread it seems 101 may have been right on this one.

Back in the day, Mitt Romney, Anthony Fauci, and TC Talks used to get together in Oakland County and torture Beagles.

TC Talks and a number of other posters here who don't share his alleged beliefs hate Christians. They just look for excuses. Say anything against them and they call you racist and other names.

The poor, downtrodden, oppressed white Christian male... it's so unfair how they've been held down all this time. Certainly things have to be turning around soon.

Your comments are pure rubbish TCT as this has nothing to do with racism and God's judgement on them.

The Pew study was referring to those that believe in traditional biblical values, and they rose by 4% over the approximately same time that Trump was president, not necessarily directly because of him.

There are many factors that were not considered, the effects of Wuhan Virus, Lockdowns, Job Losses, Income Losses, Family Stress, Loss of a Family member that were likely a large contributing factor. It times like this that often persons take time to reflect on what matters to them. (There is also possible pushback the WOKE/Cancel Culture/Anti-Police agenda, because it has went way too far.)

For you suggest these people are racists and there is special place in Hell for those that renewed their faith in traditional biblical values when there family was likely dealing with terrible events, just shows bass ackward your thinking is and your lack of compassion for those think different than you.

PS I see you totally glossed over part of the study that the liberal churches, like yours, have totally flat-lined. When you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything...
