And for the record, I am a strong proponent of redemption and second chances. However, the burden is on the offender to demonstrate their growth. Sometimes the best opportunity for personal growth is when you finally recognize what you stand to lose. It doesn't work on everyone, but I do think most people are worthy of the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
I'm here for a good, hearty debate, to agree and disagree respectfully, and commiserate on the current state of terrestrial radio.

I do view this differently than I view Lansing, although I also view Lansing in a negative light. Unite the Right had clear documentation and permits. They defined themselves, and even Fox News classified the rally as White Supremacist/Nationalist:bmw wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 7:59 pmTrump's broader point was that there were normal, non-extremist Conservatives opposed to the removal of the statues, and that it wasn't fair to suggest that the only people who wanted the statues to stay up were Neo-Nazis. Now I don't know who all actually attended the protest, and I'm not sure Trump did either. But if it was anything like the Lansing protests last summer, then I assume the media's portrayal of who actually attended was inaccurate. Seems to me the only conflating that occurred was the media using Neo-Nazi opposition to the statue removal to paint a broad brush onto all Conservatives - ie, if you support leaving the statues up, then you must be a Neo-Nazi.

The biggest issue with Bryce’s argument is that 1964’s Democrats became Republicans and the Republicans became Democrats. The process took 20 years or so to complete but all those folks in the solid south didn’t suddenly see some magic light on civil rights and become Republicans after the act was passed. The inverse is true as well... all those Republicans who supported the act didn’t suddenly become racist assholes when they joined the Democratic Party. The parties merely flipped positions... the Democrats went whole hog on inclusivity and diversity and the Republicans went in with Nixon’s southern strategy... something wholly unrelated to their 1964 positions.jadednihilist wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 11:43 amAnd for the record, I am a strong proponent of redemption and second chances. Whether he mis-spoke or not, he said what he said. I make $40K a year, so that means I should pay no taxes.
