Dianne Feinstein Dies

Post by Rate This » Fri Sep 29, 2023 9:03 am

She was the current longest serving senator and oldest member of congress at 90. Whoever takes her place to fill out the rest of her term will be a Democrat so this won’t change the balance of power. I do wonder how many more of these folks are gonna die in office instead of giving it up ahead of time.

Special 3pm newscast tribute coming up so her remaining contemporaries can watch right before "supper."

I think Grassley will be next to pass away.

I read that her staff has placed flowers on her Senate floor desk, along with her remaining Werther's originals.

I just looked him up now that he’s got the oldest member of congress “honor”… he’s also 90 and first got into Congress in the house in 1975 after 16 years in Iowa’s legislature… it’s staggering to think somebody has had a 64 year political career that began at the ripe old age of… 26.

Can Newsome appoint himself to replace her?

Unfortunately for the same reasons—someone's willing to employ them for their past value and name recognition, not their future value. It amazes me that people are paying good money this weekend to see the last few games of a baseball player who should have been gone long ago, if Tigers management had been a little smarter about 10 years ago.

Newsom has a big decision. He basically promised to appoint a black woman, which is Lee, after he put Padilla in Kamalas seat. But Pelosi wants Schiff to get the seat. If Gavin appoints Lee, she would have a head up in next years election being the incumbent.

Do you think appointing Schiff to Feinstien's seat, and then appointing Lee to Schiff's seat, would placate everyone?

Nope.

He will have to act quickly too with the Senate facing important decisions upcoming and it being so close.

Do you think Newsom should consider Pelosi still influential enough to kowtow to? Or because she's exiting stage left, can he say:
"I appreciate your opinion but ... ".
