Election Results
I'm truly fascinated by the events of the past month. In 2016, this election was run just fine and the results were accepted. In 2020, with many of the same people and equipment in place, it's not fine and somehow the results are fraudulent.
Which leads me to the following question. I'm hoping for complete, thoughtful answers. Memes, name calling or other horseplay will lead to blocking and potential deletion of the thread by me. I'm anxious for your opinion but not your vitriol.
What are the actual results of the 2020 election and if the Electoral College meet and vote as currently reported who is the President on January 20, 2021?
Thanks looking forward to reading this thread.

Re: Election Results
To be honest, we should suspend the Erectoral College meeting for about a month and see where we are at then. There are still legal issues that need to be addressed. This whole thing may take a few years to suss out in the courts. A lot of fraud occurred.
Donald Trump was and is the best president this country has ever had. And he will return to glory as our leader again.
Re: Election Results
With all the confusion we should abandon the electoral college system and simply go by the popular vote. Seems a whole less complicated that way. The system as is is just too convoluted.

First off, I'm a part time resident of the U.S. but not a citizen. I'm neither a liberal nor a conservative. I'm a socialist. So I don't have any skin in the game.
That might help me to see the situation more objectively than someone who is emotionally of ideologically invested in it.
To me, the results are clear. One candidate won the election decisively

I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

I am curious how you feel our systems of government compare between Canada and the USA?

I have a great deal of admiration and respect for your system. Your democracy was really put to the test in this election. Many feared that it might fail. But it passed with flying colours.

Re: Election Results
The Electoral College is a necessary evil if you want every vote to actually count and not just the large population centers. You should have been taught about it in high school, if not that is a failure of the education system. As for this election, when the smoke clears Biden will take the oath of office. While there are tons of allegations of massive fraud, there has yet to be any hard, concrete evidence presented. 37 states have certified their votes and once all the legal BS clears the rest should and get on with life. There could be some faithless electors when the Electoral College counts but they won't be enough to amount to anything.
Re: Election Results
We absolutely cannot abandon the Electoral College system. Doing so would give too much power to California and New York. You need to consider that states have their own needs, their own rights. I know that the liberal only thinks in terms of how they can possibly exploit the system, but you're getting a little out of hand here if you want to tear down a fundamental convention of how the country works.

Re: Election Results
Where do you get the impression that 2016 was run "just fine"??? We're you asleep for that whole time Rumplestilskin? We had three years of "collusion, collision, collusion" (which could have been either party), and lots of other suspicions actions, but not enough to change the rightful outcome.Mark Elliott wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:33 amI'm truly fascinated by the events of the past month. 2020? More of the same, but was it enough to change the outcome??
Re: Election Results
Actually the Electoral College causes half the votes to count for nothing. In a popular vote system your vote counts even if your wife is a 900 pound Heffer with 10 nipples and is the closest living thing for 20 miles regardless of party. The person in Michigan like that who voted for Trump had his vote count for absolutely nothing. Might as well have wiped his ass with the ballot.zzand wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 11:36 amThe Electoral College is a necessary evil if you want every vote to actually count and not just the large population centers. Our schools teach this as a logical system... it causes everyone to focus on 6 or 7 swing states, ignore the rest and the parties to not have to be nationally competitive and not have to innovate to win the whole of the nation. Besides... the most populous states wouldn’t be enough to win... you need the middle too.
Re: Election Results
You have the liberal view of the Electoral College....I will believe the Antrim County "Evidence" when it is revealed to the world. At the moment it is still a chimera.

Re: Election Results
I'm just thinking through this logically... there are how many democracies founded after us and how many that took a hard pass on a system like that?

They had an error. The clerk admitted it two weeks ago. Story over.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Re: Election Results
Thanks for the name calling, you seem a little agitated. I just note that on Dec 10, 2016 there were NO lawsuits filed, no one disputing the results of the election, no one refusing to concede and no news stories about the Supreme Court intervening. To me, this indicates that all parties at the time were satisfied that the election was run "just fine".km1125 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 12:37 pmWhere do you get the impression that 2016 was run "just fine"??? The "collusion" you refer to had nothing to do with rigged machines, invalid signatures or any other aspect of American voting. There was never a claim that the election was "stolen" but that Russian influence may have affected people's voting behavior.
