Police get more scrutiny from the press

Post by TC Talks » Tue Jun 30, 2020 5:22 pm

Increasingly, the initial police press release is often slanted and often not the true account of what happened.

Countless cases over the past two years have proven that the officer at the center of an incident is not transparent with what actually happened. Reporters and editors are starting to verify before printing the police version.
Some crime reporters argue that, rather than trying to present the first story as the complete account, they approach it as part of a long process of determining the truth. Often, police do not lay out their full cases until months later when it goes to court.

“These high-profile cases, I don’t see what choice we have to not write about it on the front end,” said one crime reporter at a major metropolitan daily newspaper, who spoke anonymously because he did not have authorization from his bosses to speak. “Question things, certainly — did they prove what they’re saying? Did they show the evidence? [But] that doesn’t happen at the first stage. When somebody gets arrested for murder, they’re not going to lay out the evidence. My job, I think, is to say, ‘This is what your police department said they did’ ” — and then stick with the story to see if it’s true.

What? No fake charts?

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

No, just a story that people have had enough of the lies from killer cops.

Shall I post dozens of examples of police falsifying reports to cover their ass?

You are aware of the problem but choose to ignore that people, many of them Christians, are being killed. You don't cares?

So basically you were a friend to police/prosecutor until it was expedient to be against the police/prosecutor.

You were yucking it up about closing down businesses in TC not long ago under the long arm of the law.

Or the does Sheriff report to the Prosecutor? LOL

In an excellent turn of events, hostile cops will now have their disciplinary records made public in NYC... 3200 incidences in this first batch...
Until last month, New York state prohibited the release of police officers’ disciplinary records. Civilians’ complaints of abuse by officers were a secret. So were investigators’ conclusions. The public couldn’t even know if an officer was punished.

The New York City police officer whose use of a prohibited chokehold led to the death of Eric Garner in 2014 had a record of misconduct. Garner’s last words — “I can’t breathe” — became a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement.

The city investigator who revealed the existence of the officer’s record was forced to resign in 2017; the officer himself wasn’t fired until 2019.

When the death of George Floyd and footage of his pleas for his life ignited worldwide protests, activists in New York renewed their push to repeal the statute that kept disciplinary records under wraps, known as 50-a. State lawmakers finally acted, voting to repeal the provision, which had been on the books for decades.

Soon after, ProPublica asked New York’s Civilian Complaint Review Board, or CCRB, for a list of officers, along with the complaints against them, and what discipline, if any, had been recommended.

Today, we are making this information public and, with it, providing an unprecedented picture of civilians’ complaints of abuse by NYPD officers as well as the limits of the current system that is supposed to hold officers accountable.

Hell, that is the Swamp Media, 24/7/365.

But often the initial press releases haven’t reflected the reality of the situation which often takes months to resolve.
