Over the weekend, I had a project I was working on that took me into the neighborhoods of Detroit. I wasn't in the heavily invested in Downtown area, the Wayne State area or the Woodward corridor. I was in the actual neighborhoods, east, west and south. After two day's I came home laterally depressed by the conditions that I saw and things experienced.

At one point, I had to call 911 to report a crime in progress. The experience left me incredulous. Here is what happened, paraphrased.

Dial 911, recorded voice came on, "You have dialed Detroit 911, all of our operators are busy at the moment, please don't hang up. If this is not an emergency, call the Detroit Police Department at xxx-xxx-xxxx. If this is an emergency, please stay on the line. Have the location of the emergency and your name and phone number ready for the operator". Then there was several seconds of silence. Then, "You have dialed Detroit 911, all of our operators are busy at the moment, please don't hang up. If this is not an emergency, call the Detroit Police Department at xxx-xxx-xxxx. If this is an emergency, please stay on the line. Have the location of the emergency and your name and phone number ready for the operator". Again a few more seconds of silence. Then again, "You have dialed Detroit 911, all of our operators are busy at the moment, please don't hang up. If this is not an emergency, call the Detroit Police Department at xxx-xxx-xxxx. If this is an emergency, please stay on the line. Have the location of the emergency and your name and phone number ready for the operator".

Finally, I got a live person, the first thing out of her mouth was "What is the location of your emergency"? I gave her the major street I was on, the name of the business and a major landmark next to the business and approximate distance from a major freeway. She replied, "I will need a cross street to be able to send an officer so they will be able to find it." I replied, "Listen, I'm driving, I don't know the name of the cross street, but it's the xxx right next of XXX. Any officer that works this area is going to know XXX it's been here a 100 years." Dispatch "So, you can't give me a cross street"? Me, "Listen, I just saw xxx happening, it's happening right now!" Dispatch, "Oh, I'll need to send someone right away. Do you have any idea of a cross street?" At this point I damn near just hung up. But tried one more time. I said, " Listen to me, write this down, it's happening at xxx business on xxx mile road, the xxx is located right next to XXX which is a major landmark that EVERYONE knows. The officers will KNOW, just put the call out." I could hear the utter frustration in her voice by this point, but she finally said she was going to send an officer and asked for my name and number.

I really feel bad for the law abiding citizens that have to deal with that when they are in trouble or see someone else in trouble.

Like they say, "When seconds count, Detroit Police are only a half-hour away. Don't blame the officer on the street, blame the incompetence of their 911 system.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Was your call answered locally or some call center in India?

I thought Colemen Young invited people like Bryce to leave Detroit in the 1980's. It sounds like you are bringing your suburban culture to a city.

Every time I have called 911, they ask for a cross street. Detroit is 52 square miles, dispatch isn't going to know the entire city like they would in a suburb.

Cry all you want, but Michigan is pretty healthy compared to the states that are ignoring the COVID.

This is where we thank Governor Whitmer for protecting us.

This isn’t a COVID chart... it’s a salmonella map from February 15th 2019.

Here’s the latest version of that same map issued June 24th:

Nice fucking try. You attempted to pass off a salmonella chart as a COVID chart...

Detroit is actually 143 square miles, not 52. TC Talks Too Much is off by a factor of 2.75. This is about par for the course for him, off by a factor of about three. Maybe he is thinking of Paris (41) or another Socialist European Capital he would rather live in? Maybe Pooperville, CA (47)?

Shockingly, trollinlife is wrong again. The states that are blowing up right now are Texas, Arizona, and Florida.....all with Republican governors setting the rules for the cities.

Is it too much to ask, if calling 911, not to get a recording? Three times?

Is it too much to ask that a dispatcher would recognize a historic landmark and understand that an officer that works that area would know where it is?

If I called in a shooting at the Fox Theater, would they waste time asking me for a cross street?
