Aunt Jemima's Great Grandson laments her removal from brand.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020 ... cy-erased/

This removal was done by A$$hole Lawyers who don't realize that they are doing more harm than good for African Americans, or do and just don't care what chaos they cause. This happened before about 50 years ago, with a previous generation of A$$hole Lawyers. African Americans in a great majority back then thought Aunt Jemima was a positive image for African Americans, and put the kibosh on the removal.

That's strange, Breitbart has always been the authority on racial sensitivity in American journalism.

The original image was supposedly based on this woman:

Note is the IMAGE. You are correct there was no Aunt Jamima. They did try awfully hard to pretend she existed in their marketing for a long time.

Unless the company's research shows current brand perception is negative / weak, this is a stupid move.

My guess is these products will be rebranded as Quaker products in 2021. If Quaker's brand perception is stronger, then this maneuver might make sense.

I never viewed the Aunt Jemima brand name as defamatory toward blacks.

A pamphlet detailing the “life” of Aunt Jemima, which portrayed her as a “happy” slave with a “secret recipe” working at a plantation owned by Colonel Higbee of Louisiana, was also created for the 1893 World’s Fair, and laid the foundation for future advertisements to build on the Aunt Jemima myth.

I was surprised to see Aunt Jemima syrup outsells Mrs. Butterworth's by a greater than 2:1 margin.

At least in Michigan, the Mrs. Butterworth's brand always seems to receive the most shelf space.

They might use the guys Real name, he was actually a rice farmer.

Cream of Wheat and Mrs. Butterworth are also facing “review”... Mrs. Butterworth seems like a stretch to me. It’s pretty generic looking.

I never knew Mrs. Butterworth's was even a caricature of an African American lady.

I remember the talking syrup bottle TV ads from the 80s and 90s.

I forgot Cream of Wheat still existed.

Will these labels be changed in the U.S. Market?

If you're a gin drinker, you better think twice about ordering a Negroni at your favorite wet goods establishment...

Image

For those of you that would like to try a Negroni at home, here is the recipe that I like...

1¼ ounces gin
1¼ ounces Campari
1¼ ounces sweet vermouth
Orange twist, for garnish

Stir all liquid ingredients with ice. (do NOT shake) Strain into chilled rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with an orange twist.

It's a wonderful palate cleanser to enjoy as an aperitif prior to a meal.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.
