US officially in a recession

It’s official: The longest expansion in U.S. history ended in February as the economy fell into deep recession, according to the group responsible for making such declarations.
The National Bureau of Economic Research on Monday said a 128-month expansion — the longest dating to 1854 — came to a halt in February.

Trump busts a 10 year run. Well done.

Let's see how quickly we recover from this one vs the last one. I'm guessing 10x as fast.

You do realize who was in office when the last one turned around, right?

Let's make sure this fact doesn't get lost. I also point to the obstructionist Senate and all the tax wranglings. I think it's time to get money back into the middle class.

I don't think that can be overstated enough. Recessions are signaled by consecutive quarters of reduced GDP and other economic measures, so that effectively debunks any talk that this is a result of the pandemic. The wheels of Trump's economic mismanagement were well in motion last summer if the very definition of what constitutes a recession condition is to be believed. This is Trump's fuckup.

Dow was down 1800 points today because virus cases have spiked in several states and this has severely dented optimism for a quick economic recovery.

The stock market isn't the economy. Through much of this recession the stock market has been booming.

It's days like today I'm glad I'm a socialist. I won't lose a wink of sleep about the stock market tonight.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Meanwhile,

Our village idiot was busy getting his ass kicked by Seattle's Mayor on Twitter.

I think the market reacted not so much on the spike in cases but the fact that left wing loon Governor's may shut their states down again.
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Every child of 5 knew that would be the result of a spike in cases and they were all warned not to go too fast but these spikes are happening in 19 mostly red states that went nuts trying to open too fast. So if anybody shuts down right this minute it’ll be Republican most likely.

The fact that Trump has decided to believe that the COVID crisis is over will be a problem for him and us.

You just don't ignore pandemics away.

This pandemic could have been controlled by a scalpel, we reacted with an axe.

Because nobody at the top reacted at all.
