The use of the word riot has been nearly universal the last 2 days...
I beg to differ..

Quick check at 12:41 EST Friday...

State police arrive at deserted police precinct set ablaze by crowds protesting George Floyd's death
MSNBC.com and NBC.com
Governor calls for end to ‘recklessness’ of protests, acknowledges ‘institutional racism’ surrounding George Floyd’s death

Well there is one outlet with the temerity to use the appropriate word; riot.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Bryce is correct...and RT you are so wrong on this one factually.

Go to google news. Type the word "riot" in the search and compare those results to when you type "protest"

Politico and some local news outlets are using "riot." That and Fox News. That's it. EVERYONE ELSE is describing this as "protests."

Every article I’ve read has used the word riots and rioters multiple times. It’s not some sort of banned word.

Granted most of those have been the Minneapolis local outlets or some of the websites that have been aggregating together the destruction.

Well then, the above would have been much more accurate if it had read:
Every article I’ve read from the local outlets or some of the websites has used the word riots and rioters multiple times. It’s not some sort of banned word, except for the major television and cable news outlets.

A riot IS a protest. Just as a sit in or march is a protest. Why are you numbskulls arguing over what a protest is?

Oh yeah. Because you do not want to admit that Mr. Floyd’s senseless “murder by cop” is just the latest murder by cop of an unarmed black American male in The United States - based on hundreds of years of systemic racism.

You see - a protest that is a riot involves destruction of property which encroaches on the rights of the property owners. And in that way - you can distract from yet another racist hate crime that has caused boiling-over anger - and instead focus on the plight of the property owners. Which allows you to frame the protestors as “bad”, and ignore the righteous nature of their anger. While distracting from the illegal, racially motivated, hate crime (murder(s) committed by American police officers regularly.

Rioting is not ok. PERIOD. It is not justified, EVER. Sounds like you are defending it in this instance.

And yes, if you have an issue with a wrong in society and your answer is to destroy others' private property, then I am not going to take you seriously.

Rioting is not ok... however it is the logical conclusion and resulting behavior of people who just don’t care anymore.

Link provided to back up my point. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
https://msutoday.msu.edu/news/2019/the- ... shootings/
“We found that the race of the officer doesn’t matter when it comes to predicting whether black or white citizens are shot," Cesario said. "If anything, black citizens are more likely to have been shot by black officers, but this is because black officers are drawn from the same population that they police. So, the more black citizens there are in a community, the more black police officers there are.”

We found that violent crime rates are the driving force behind fatal shootings,” Cesario said. “Our data show that the rate of crime by each racial group correlates with the likelihood of citizens from that racial group being shot. If you live in a county that has a lot of white people committing crimes, white people are more likely to be shot. If you live in a county that has a lot of black people committing crimes, black people are more likely to be shot. It is the best predictor we have of fatal police shootings.”

That's a bit of a cop out. Small business owners in Michigan who are still shut down by Whitmer's lockdown orders are probably in the same boat, yet they're not rioting - they're peacefully protesting.

There absolutely are violent riots occurring in Minneapolis, and the reporting should reflect that fact. The refusal of the media to use the appropriate term is bizarre.

Are there non-violent protests also occurring in other parts of town? Yes.

It is because they are sympathetic to the cause. Plus, they don't want to conjure up images of the late 1960s riots.

That’s not exactly the same... the business owners still care and that’s why they are calm. Not being calm would result in a harmful and adverse reaction that they don’t want. I’m saying these people don’t give a fuck what the harmful and adverse reaction is. For them the ship sailed on that already.

That might actually be wise not conjuring up those images.

Mainly because of a particular word that preceded the word "riot's" back in the '60's.

Oh and here's a beauty...

It's certainly not a riot according to NBCNEWS.com, it's a 'conflagration waiting to happen'...

National protests over George Floyd's death was 'conflagration waiting to happen'
