You missed another one - that their mayor was on national TV on March 10th encouraging everyone under the age of 50 to just go about their normal daily lives - because as he put it, the virus isn't really that contagious and because it isn't any worse than the flu. It is amusing to me that the same people who say Trump wasn't doing enough in February at the same time give DeBlasio a free pass for not only doing nothing, but also encouraging life as usual, a full month later.

Notice that what DeBlasio said was the prevailing thought at the time.

On March 9 Ohio's governor declared a state emergency in Ohio
On March 10 DeBlasio told people to go about their business
On March 11, WHO officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
On March 11 the NBA suspended its season
On March 12 the NCAA cancelled the rest of winter and spring sports
By March 13 7 states had shut down public and private schools

He told people UNDER 50 to go on as usual. At the time the disease was believed to mostly infect old people (60+) and those with compromised immune systems. Notice he didn’t tell them to go on as usual? The people he said that to generally fall in neither category. It didn’t take more than 10-12 days (if that) for everybody to realize there is little rhyme or reason to who it strikes.

What has frustrated many New Yorkers is that MTA has reduced cars, packing people in tighter.

My argument is in worse City for Covid-19 why are these even running at all? Dumb!

Because they are necessary to get round in a city where there aren’t that many people with cars, so the essential folks need to get to work still, so it’s not dumb, it’s essential that they run.
