I think there are 2 reasons why they wont stay home, at least by nearly the numbers they did in 2016:

1) Biden is far from perfect, but Hillary was a deplorable candidate that many would never vote for.

2) Now that they have actually lived 4 years in Trumpworld, they dont want it to continue.

They should vote Green Party if on the ballot in their state. Otherwise, some will hold their nose and vote for Biden, others will stay home. A few may vote for the libertarian just because.

They will fall in line.. I think they get the stakes. Bernie even said he won’t contest at the convention. Let all the states vote and most delegates whether plurality or majority wins...

I believe whoever gets 1991 delegates wins and if neither gets to that magic number then we have a brokered convention. I personally would like to see that, at least it will make the coverage interesting for a change. Most of the time watching paint dry is more exciting.
