I think we are seeing Trump burnout for sure. Some in The GOP are even Telling Gov.Bevin to step aside, this is a losing battle. It is what it is. I do agree, this had to do with state issues, not national for the most part. Close elections are rough, however 5000 votes would almost be impossible to overcome at this point. However, Bevin wasn't destroyed by any means.

I could see him running for The US House possibly in the future or heck, McConnell somehow might retire and Bevin would likely be in the running for the nomination to replace him. I recall in 2003-04, The Democratic party nominee, Ben Chandler lost to Ernie Fletcher but 6 months later ran for the US house in a special election and won. Same thing with Charlie Crist in FL in 14, lost a razor thin race but ran for the house 2 years later and won.
