Your opinion, please

Post by Mega Hertz » Sun Jan 22, 2017 2:49 am

I'd be a liar if I said everything that's going on the last few days isn't making me uneasy.

I wanted to post something like this on Facebook, if nothing else, to get it off my chest and out of my mind. But given the climate there lately, I'm hoping for some more mature and reasonable conversation. Will I get it? I'm not sure. But I have a few thoughts I'd like to share, and some feedback would be great.

First, I would like to thank President Obama and his family. Maybe I didn't always agree with every move he made, but now that all is said and done, and I look back, even through all the hell I've been through personally, he made me feel like I actually mattered, and could maybe even be a better person one day.

But now that President Obama is history, I move forward. Our new president is Donald Trump. I have mixed feelings about him, but I'd be a hypocrite if I claimed to be a reformed person who was given many second chances himself, and didn't give Trump a first chance.

I don't even want to get into the rioting and senseless acts of destruction happening across the country. While I would not have voted for Trump if I had the opportunity, I can safely say Hillary Clinton would not have been my alternative. Not one side is any better than the other when it comes to showing contempt for the winner, especially if it wasn't their guy.

What really chaps my ass is this business of "not my president". Allow me to tell you, citizen of the United States...Donald Trump IS your president. See, we are afforded Constitutional rights, one is the right to PEACEFULLY protest, and the other is the ability to vote out any politicians we deem aren't doing right by the country. I will forever be proud to call the US my home, I love this land and want nothing but the best for it. We demand such high expectations from our leaders, yet burn, loot and riot the moment things don't go out way. I want so badly to be a smart ass, and lower myself to the level of the "not my president" people on the left, and the "crying snowflake" rhetoric from the right. I, however, choose to be a grown adult about it. You can call me an "elitist liberal" if you'd like, but that would make you wrong. Like it or not, like him or not, Donald Trump is the COC of the country you live in, which is America. You don't have to LIKE it, but you WILL respect it.

I guess this journey I've been through has taught me a thing or two about life. It's time to grow up. I apparently have. Because if I don't like what is going on, I have a way, a legal way, to go about changing it. Obama never imposed socialism and Trump is not going to start world war three. I won't tell people to "get over it", because they truly don't believe Trump is the right man for the job. Today, however, Trump is president for all Americans. Don't like it? Refer to the Constitution. It's not just there for decor, you know.

The folks that did not like Obama didn't riot, and hardly ever protested on the streets.

They took it out at the ballot box - the way it was intended.

The actions of the people reacting negatively to Trump are almost all the result of media embellishment, selective reporting, puffing and gamesmanship on the part of the candidates, and (largely) a misunderstanding of how our political, military, and legislative systems actually work.

Very, very little can be inferred accurately about how Donald Trump will handle this role.....so some build on assumption, innuendo, and outright imagination. Indeed, and at the risk of irritating others, I will say we know a great deal more about how the Clinton group handles positions of governmental authority.

It's also, perhaps more so among the the much larger group of people who don't act out on windows of a Starbucks......the more 'normal' people we see every day who hold vociferous preferences..... a result of people feeling they finally have a foothold and opportunity to give 'the man' a black eye.

I see lots of people, some good friends in the group, building on the resentment against those who have fought, gambled, and won with their careers, while (some of my friends) took the safe route of life and as a result are living at a lower economic level. In their excitement to finally 'score' a hit, they often veer very close to socialism....sometimes jumping in with both feet.

Being self-employed almost all my life, at times successfully, I've been automatically populated by some of them into the group of "Trump Supporters", with many assumptions made about where and how I stand on things.

"Plate Cap has more money than I do, so he must be one of THEM!!"

The successes of the few bosses I've had in my life have resulted in my success working for them, and the successes of business owners I've served over the years also directly resulted in my success. Why is that so hard to understand, and why are those successful people vilified?

Seems the Trump protestors are, in this case, tightly embracing the very prejudices they claim to be trying to erase.

The protesters are wearing pink hats, with two pink horns. That would be the very definition of Pinko's :blink

I had to laugh at the Ashley J. said: "...We demand to be respected, and and we're going to be nasty..."
Really?

That not going to work! The rural voters are going even more agree with Trump and are going to laugh at you, like they did here: http://nypost.com/2017/01/22/how-trump- ... ter-again/

PS Madonna is the very definition of nasty.

Remember the birther movement? You seem to have a poor memory.

This is karma and Trump lost the popular vote by 2.8 million people. The Capital Police department developed attendance numbers not the media.

Yesterday was a shinning example of democracy in action. The Woman's March had 4 arrests nationwide. As for the anchists on inauguration day, they protested Obama too. They hate all politicians.

I thought the press conference the White House held whining about the embarrassing turnout for Trump's inauguration versus the monumental turnout for the women's march was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. This guy is the most thin-skinned petty fool we've had as President perhaps ever.

You certainly have your right to apologize and fictionalize events that take place you're, just not going to find many buyers to your perspective outside core Trump voters.

Seeking the opinions of largely white men over 40 on this forum isn't exactly a poll of the American people. I don't believe we have a single female who post to your regularly anymore.

No but I do remember tea party matches saying that... I remember birthers saying that... the reaction to Obama was not without its outrage from the right. I think here some anarchists got mixed in among the regular protesters.

As regular posters already know, I wasn't a fan of President Trump during the election cycle. I still find him a bit boorish, but that may be what regular folks find attractive about him.

I will say this though. I know, for certain, President Trump loves and respects this country, what it stands for, and what the men and women of this great land accomplished in 245 years. I don't believe that the last inhabitant of 1600 Pennsylvania avenue did. In fact, I feel he even felt some amount of scorn for the regular folks that populate middle America.

For this reason alone, Donald J. Trump has my full support and loyalty as my President. He will hold it until future actions warrant something less.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

True Bryce.

Obama was saying the rural folk cling to their guns and god.

The problem is Obama believed government was god.

And in America, individuals can believe in God but the government cannot show favor to any faith.

Somehow this fact surprises those born between 1945 and 1975.... I guess they always remember it being there.

The pledge didn't have god in it and In God We Trust wasn't on all money until 1954 and school prayer wasn't a thing everywhere but especially not before this short period from 46 until the Supreme Court said uh... no in 1962... USA Christian Nation as a rallying cry is new. A response to the threat from the USSR and communist hysteria post WW2... any intention of acting like this is somehow 1776 thinking is bullshit.

He was pointing out that there a lot of unenlightened people that believe stupid things in the hinterlands, things that if applied radically alter the original ideas of the USA. Not to say liberals don't but conservative ideas tend to be detrimental change under the guise of the good old days. That's much more dangerous when that's not how the good old days were and you're actually talking about a fundamental reform of everything we have stood for based on a poor understanding of history and an obsession with things after WW2.

Oh please. The "birther movement?" Get over it. Mr. Obama got over that a long time ago and so should you. The man consistently showed dignity and grace regarding the issue, yet his supporters refuse to do the same. And.... just for facts sake, not that that matters to you, his PUBLISHER sent out a press release saying he was born in Kenya prior to the book tour for "Dreams Of My Father." So please, knock it off with the false narrative that it started with racist Obama haters. They may have added fuel to the fire... but the story began there.
