Regarding the Michigan Militia (in response to bmw's post from Friday):

Some seem to blame the government for their lack of personal success. Other members are motivated by "Doomsday Prep"-type reasons or legitimate self-defense - which I don't have a problem with.

Many seem to be supportive of peaceful discourse but a significant cohort seem to have a deep seated paranoia and hatred against state and/or federal government in general, which again, is probably driven by their lack of personal accomplishment.

So, while many self-identified militia members are harmless and even though I definitely overstated the number who are unsuccessful losers or wack jobs, I do believe a materially large cohort of militia members are deserving of those labels and a select few are outright dangerous people.
