Which is a perfect example of why the Electoral College was instituted in the first place and it worked as intended.

We (The United States) are a federal republic and not a democracy. Although most on the left would love the concept of state sovereignty to be eliminated and have an all powerful federal government dictate to all, that ain't what this country was founded to be, that's what our founders were trying to keep from happening.

Take a look at these numbers from the New York Times:

Land Area
Clinton’s America
15%
530,000 square miles

Trump’s America
85%
3,000,000 square miles

Population
Clinton’s America
54%
174 million

Trump’s America
46%
148 million

Popular Vote
As of Friday, Nov. 18. Percentages are for Trump
and Clinton votes only and exclude other candidates.

For Clinton
50.5%
62.1 million

For Trump
49.5%
61.0 million

The Electoral College system has worked as intended by protecting the less populated states from being dictated to by the large population centers. In other words, mob rule.
Why do you focus on the population part and ignore the overruling the people if need be function? Too uncomfortable to understand that the founders were elites who thought like that?

Because of the simple fact of state sovereignty and the protection against mob rule.
15 percent of the country should not be able to dictate to the states located in the other 85 percent.
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

That doesn't mean that the founders were not guarding against the peons making a fatal error... you can't recognize one of their clear desires (Balance State influence on the process) and ignore the other (gee, lots of idiots out there, we had better put a bit of distance between them and decision making)...

Forget it, Bryce. The cast of Hamilton delivered quite a resounding message in person to Mike Pence as he exited the theatre last night. And now, Dumbass Donald is all "aTwitter" about it. Don't distract him with the anti-democracy thing. That can wait until his first face to face sit down with Putin - when he assures Vlad-the-Invader that The United States Of America is not a democracy.

Putin will be delighted!

Not sure I'd take civic lessons from a bunch of thespian's.

And he would be correct. The United States is a Representative Republic.

And I bet Old T Rump never told Putin that he'd have more leeway after the election like the current CIC did.

He didn't have to... Putin knows Trump is a doormat surrounding himself with alt-righters with significant ties to interests that would benefit from a softening of the US position on Russia... Vlad is very pleased indeed, why do you think he was so eager to see Trunp elected? Where did all these conservatives with a pro-Russia stance come from anyhow?

Sure, the majority of the Founding Fathers were what would be considered Elites by today's standards. Yes, they were concerned with protecting their own bacon. However, they also understood that one popular uprising in a few densely-populated areas could potentially overturn everything they had built and completely wipe out the whole system. Granted, their system wasn't perfect, but they had seen far worse.

They also understood the dynamic of geography. People are influenced by their environments, and people in different places tend to see their world differently. They also recognized that the economy, because of its geographic diversity, relied on to a great degree on mutual dependence (urban areas needed the resources of urban areas and vice-versa). An unpopular popular election of the bill-signing Chief Executive by a simple majority of the people had the potential to create an economic standoff that could potentially create one hell of a mess!

So how do you preserve a degree of Democracy in this choice while still evening the geographic playing field? Enter Electoral College. The Legislative branch is a different animal from the Executive. With 535 people to bicker and banter policy between the two houses, each representing the people of their own respective geographies. We can afford a Direct Democracy there. It's a different story when you have a single Executive who may experience only a limited aspect of the commerce system and where necessary resources come from.

There may be times when we don't like each other, but we do need each other, perhaps sometimes more than we're willing to admit. When I'm buying an ear of corn at Kroger, I don't concern myself with politics of the farmer who grew it or the trucker who drove it. I'm hungry!

Really? Who would these "alt right" people be? Jeff Sessions? Mike Pompeo? Surely not Mike Flynn?

Really, so far his selections to fill key positions have lifted my spirits and has me feeling a lot better than I was on November 9th.

Flynn is a guy most of the national security community wants nothing to do with. He lobbied for Turkey and has had dealings with Russia. Pompeo is a nobody relatively speaking. Sessions is a respectable enough guy though he may have a few skeletons of his own. Rest assured they'll be rubber stamped right on through. The one thing about Republicans having all the levers is that at least you guys get lots of stuff done fast. When we had our 2 years we didn't do jack shit...

Fascists, all.

The WORLD knows it. Most recent example? Video of the Irish law maker speaking up to his fellow governmental colleagues and leader.

Yes, the entire world remembers and recognizes fascism. It's seen this mesmerizing show before. The first act is slow. But the second act revs with a "Final Solution" until the suspense-filled grande finale ...when Americans come late to the theatre(s) and with great personal sacrifice crush the fascist dictators.

Right now much of America is sleeping through act one.
