Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Is there a history of harassment? Was the inflection while saying "Illegal Alien" earnest or sarcastic? Was the kid of some probation with the administration.
If a computer you built broke shortly after selling it because of a faulty component, should you immediately be labeled incompetent?
That's kind of what you are doing to the administration.

The federal system considered people 3/5ths of a person too. And by your standard since it isn’t in the code anymore that means it’s NOT OK.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Actually, I was wrong. It is only the Library of Congress that has stopped using the term. Interesting nobody corrected me on that point. You, instead, ran with it.

"8 U.S. Code § 1324 - Bringing in and harboring certain aliens"
So the kid got suspended for asking a question about whether the word "alien" was being used by the teacher in the context of an alien from another planet or an alien human from another country - something that quite literally exists and is defined in the federal US Code.(a)(1)(A) Any person who (iii)knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation;
...shall be punished...

I have a life… I’m trying to get ready for work and taking care of the dog and stuff. I don’t have time to painstakingly read the federal register.bmw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:15 pmActually, I was wrong. It is only the Library of Congress that has stopped using the term. That said this is a mountain out of a molehill EXCEPT that the Republican Party has turned the term into a slur the same as calling Democrats communists and socialists when they are neither. All of these terms are used by that political party in bad faith to rile up a bunch of people who don’t know any better. So for that reason we should avoid saying it. It’s no different than what Trump is doing when he talks about opening centers for the homeless to get help. It’s not about getting anybody help… it’s about getting them the hell out of sight. If it was legitimate it would be great. Learn English is another… that’s very valuable and sounds great. But it’s used as something people scream derogatorily at someone they are afraid of because of the way they look. The Republican lexicon is full of these paradoxes that suck in otherwise unsuspecting people who may be well intentioned and don’t realize there’s another meaning that’s less nice behind the politicians saying these things.

Good. No one is "illegal". Their actions might be, but this is bullying behavior.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

There's a difference between making a blanket statement calling ALL undocumented people "illegal aliens" and calling Donald Trump a piece of shit. If you can't see that, I can't help you.
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
All undocumented people ARE illegal aliens, by definition. If you don't like the language, take that up with the federal government, not me.
As an aside, the list of people you call names from cunts to pieces of garbage to pieces of shit is much, much longer than 1 person.

What we are saying is that because it has been weaponized and turned into a slur by Republicans and used to scare the living daylights out of their supporters we need to start using something else. Nobody gives a rats ass what the federal register says. It’s a conscious societal choice to not use the term illegal alien. One political party turned it from a standard designation into a boogeyman.bmw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 6:19 pmAll undocumented people ARE illegal aliens, by definition. Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
See the use of criminal illegal aliens all over right wing media. They aren’t being matter of fact… they are saying it in a way that loads it up as much as possible.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Just one example. Show me one single example of somebody using the phrase "illegal alien" as a slur.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
You can't be this myopic...
"Illegal alien" is inherently a racist slur. It is impossible to use those words and not sound racist. Do you also say the n-word because rappers say it?
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.
Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
Are you calling Bill Clinton and everyone in Congress who stood up and clapped for him a racist?
