Seldom missed opening day when I lived in Michigan. I remember snow flurries, games cancelled and played the next day, biting cold. I honestly don't remember a warm one.
I was there in either 2005 or 2006. It was 68 degrees and partly cloudy at 1:05 PM that day. :)

This time it took eleven innings, but our boys do it again -- coming from behind with a big crucial double to the opposite field wall by rookie Colt Keith and another shutdown effort by the bullpen.

6-3 for 5-0

Game 2 coming up.

Wow - the Mets stink. They are 0-5 to start the season!

The Tigers definitely have an easy schedule to start the season.

Very happy with the 5-0 start.

Matt Manning pitches a no-hitter through 5 2/3; he did walk four. And he couldn't make the team out of spring training! Where's the justice? :smokin

(Edit)
No-hitter broken up in the eighth. It's 1-0 Tigers going into the ninth.

Mets win it in ninth with a walk-off. :? Faedo takes the loss, but he made some good pitches. Star slugger Alonzo tied it pulling a pitch into the left field seats that was low and outside.

Uggggghhh!

Leave it to the Tigers to give up only 3 hits yet still find a way to lose the ball game.

They are 5-1. Every team lets up runs late in games due to a bullpen off day. It doesn't mean much.

Another close one - and Tigers emerge victorious. :)

Interesting use of pitching by Hinch, necessitated, of course, by yesterday's double header. Lange was brought in to get the very final out in the 9th.

Go ahead run was scored in the bottom of the 8th.

Shitty outing for Baez, who was 0-4. He flew out to center field in his final AB of the day, leaving two stranded.

Cleveland has started 7-2 on the road. Good start for Vogt as manager. Cleveland is +32 in runs scored. Their pitching is weaker with Shane Bieber having Tommy John Surgery.

Detroit is now in second place after today's lack of runs scored.

This team's really living on the edge. 6-2 but only one win by a starter.

Their three-headed batting coach isn't doing any better this year than last year. Wonder how soon they give Justyn-Henry Malloy a chance? He's hitting .333 at Toledo. In a season's worth of games at Toledo (151), he's hit 24 home runs, knocked in 91 runs, with 123 walks and a .280 average. Sure he strikes out a lot (168), and supposedly he's not a great fielder, but right now the team needs some hitting.

The Tigers stink. The early winning streak was fool's gold.

This is a .500 ball club at best as currently structured.

Chill. Tork and Greene look awful at the plate now, but will work itself out. This is hardly a great team, but better than decent pitching and a shit division means the Tigers should make things interesting all season long.

I am not convinced it is a shit division, but I would definitely say they are better than last year. Canha seems to be seeing the ball well. They just have to keep the starting pitching healthy.

It looks like a season similar to the current Red Wings season—stay above .500 for the first time in years, and hang out on the outer edge of the playoffs.

On the way to breakfast this morning, the guys on 97.1 were being very realistic about this team's problems. Then I picked up the Detroit News, which had two Lynn Henning articles about all the future Tiger All-Stars in the minors, and this quotation from Chris McCosky's game story:
Was it disappointing to come home after such an optimistic 5-1 start and lose a series to an Oakland Athletics' team that had just one win coming in? Absolutely. Does it portend anything beyond that for this Tigers' baseball team?

Absolutely not.

Wenceel Perez is being called up from Toledo.
