Jeff Greenberg Named New Tigers GM

Greenberg comes in after spending the last 16 months working with the Chicago Blackhawks. He previously spent 11 years in the Chicago Cubs' front office, the last three as assistant GM, where he worked alongside current Tigers President Scott Harris.

This made me wonder why he left baseball to work for the Blackhawks. This article provides some kind of answer:

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/338 ... ont-office
Greenberg will be tasked with building out new computer and app-based systems that will streamline information for the organization -- a journey he had a front-row seat to with the Cubs. Davidson said ultimately, the team will have all its information centralized and "at the tip of our fingertips" which "will cut down on things like unnecessary calls."
It looks like he was hired by the Blackhawks for his general technical skills. Maybe he got everything set up, mission accomplished, and he's moving back to baseball.

I assume he will be GM in name only. Not preforming the role of a traditional GM with final say on trades, signings, and the draft. Scott Harris will preform that role in that fairly new created position of President of baseball operations. A lot of clubs lately have structured things this way, making the role of GM less powerful and more of a glorified assistant GM. Nevertheless, congrats and best of luck to Greenberg, I hope he helps them to become more competitive.

What information do they want to 'streamline'? Do they want to modernize their 'analytics' department? What are they going to do with the information that they 'streamline'?

Unlikely, hockey is a much better sport, but the tigers probably offered substantially more money.

Hockey is an acquired taste.
